I can think of a lot of instances where looking like Bruce Campbell or having a chainsaw for a hand would be useful.
Do you just turn into a pile of ash, or is it more like a Logia thing from One Piece where your body is ash, but you can still control yourself fully. If it's an ash elemental form deal, then yes, it's incredibly useful in terms of not really being physically hurt anymore.
Turning things into ash is not as useful, but if you can also control ash, that might be sliiiightly more useful. But not really.
Seems not worth it unless you can also turn back from ash.

2: Depends in limit of what gets ashes and control of it.
3: Combo if 1 and 2.
