When I think about war, I think of the fear like we see on these men's faces.

So many great covers already.
I think restorative nostalgia is the number one issue with comic book fans.
A fine distinction between two types of Nostalgia:
Reflective Nostalgia allows us to savor our memories but accepts that they are in the past
Restorative Nostalgia pushes back against the here and now, keeping us stuck trying to relive our glory days.

Out of curiosity, I was looking fro comic books that feature realistic women in the military. So far I haven't found any.

Hmmm, not sure I know of much off the top of my head but some glimmerings of areas to look at...
-have you looked at covers featuring Mademoiselle Marie from the DC war books-she was a fictional member of the French Resistance rather than a member of an official branch of the armed forces. She was featured mostly in Star Spangled War Stories. May not be quite what your looking for but it's a start.
-I am not sure what the covers featured, but the Night Witches arc of Garth Ennis' Battlefields featured women fighter pilots.
-Tom Clancy's The Division Extremis Malis from Dark Horse has a woman special forces member featured
-Greg Rucka's Queen & Country might have something as well.
It's slim pickings, but that might give you a start...
