Wow, thank you! This is very unexpected--I love the Spidey cover I submitted, it's a classic...but there were so many other great covers too.

I'll post the new contest later today.

Congratulations to Shalla for the clearly best cover. (I only say that because I voted for it. Many good entries)

I bit my tongue and didn't discuss Celtic Batman's cover because we aren't suppose to argue qualifying covers.
But that is a traditional pen and ink cover by Bolland with regular comic book coloring. NOT a painted cover.
It does depict a hand with a paint brush, but the contest wasn't covers about the act of painting, it was covers that were actually painted.
For me it didn't fit the contest. My two cents, there I said it.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

Shalla Bal wins again! Congrats. And your cover topic intrigued me as well hence my vote.

Congratulations to Shalla Bal for a cover which shows us that Marvel has been trying new things for a long time.

As to what I've learned this week, the Captain realizes one simple fact. He picked the wrong week to stop posting old school Marvel.

Yowzas... so close! :-) I just logged on now after getting my new phone to work.

Congrats Shalla Bal on the worthy win: beautiful cover, really iconic.

& In reply to Kirby101 thank you for waiting till after the contest to express your view that my entry didn't fit the brief, I appreciate your waiting as those conversations before voting can get prickly!
As the original post was brief with the subject of 'Painted covers' but no direction/advice/steering on how we 'should' interpret that I would argue that my interpretation of the subject and cover choice very much did fit the brief, so I would have stuck with that choice even if it was challenged!
But I fully appreciate that 'opinions vary'! :-)

Big thanks for the people who voted for me!

This is the cover I had considered. We can all agree yours did a much better job of utilizing the theme. Envelope pushing is awesome.

No problem. The rules are let the voters decide. I suppose the only exeption to that is the OP coming in to clarify.

Contest aside, that is a great Bolland cover to a mind blowing issue.
