And Taiwan is set to be the first Asian country to introduce marriage equality.

Makes it all the more sad that most countries don't recognize its sovereignty, simply because of the economical weight of the PRC.

First Asian country? You are telling me that Japan, even with the culture of Yaoi and different mangas subgenres about men doing nsfw stuff with other men, they still dont have same sex marriage?

Also politica question, wouldnt China be the first one, since Taiwan is also a state of China.

The biggest party in Northern Ireland, the DUP had a Veto which could be used if enough Catholics or Protestants were against something. The DUP is a very loyalist/protestant party with a large religious fanbase and so at the last same sex marriage vote which actually passed with a majority was vetoed by them.

So a porn actress killed herself after other performes critizice her, mocked her and even told to kill herself for not performing with a guy who had participated in gay porn.

    http://bnonews.com/news/index.php/mobile/id6821

Mocking another and being rude to her in not the way to educate her.

The point of the matter is testing. The protocols need to be the same across the board - straight, gay, trans - one standard. Until then, refusing to work with someone who shoots under frankly dangerous conditions is a personal safety issue and has nothing to do with bigotry.

Not to steal Silvermoth's thunder but Australian parliament approves same-sex marriage.

    It's complicated. Cliff's Notes version:
There was a civil war between the Guomindang and the Communists in China in the late 1940s, which ended in the Communists establishing the People's Republic (PRC) on the mainland, while the Guomindang fell back to Taiwan (ROC).
Both governments claimed rights over all of China; with time more and more countries only recognized the PRC's claims, and cut their diplomatic ties with the ROC. But economical relations with the ROC were sustained, with the PRC's okay. (A handful of countries today still has diplomatic ties with Taiwan and recognizes its sovereignty.)

In the last couple decades, Taiwan has seen an economical growth coupled with an on-going process of democratization. So there's concern among some people that the PRC might make use of Taiwan's weak diplomatic position by moving in and pressing their own form of government over the island, reverting some of the advancements made.

    ...

Now I feel all serious and gloomy and I need to cheer myself up with something funny and cute:

Who do you all think is the hottest actor in the DC TV universe?

My (probably minority) vote goes to Johnathon Schaech.

That's horrible. I hate that she was harassed but it's also a shame she had a bit of an summation based on the guy who had previously appeared with men. I've heard bisexual people say they often encounter the same issue while dating.

Haha nah it's all good. I'm just relieved it's finally over. Getting a bit annoying with all the heteros trying to get invites to my non existent wedding though but I guess that's part of it. It's been wonderful hearing the stories about people who have been fighting for decades who finally get to say I do. It's a shame it happened too late for some

Yes, first and foremost it's unquestionably terrible that she opted for suicide at such a young age (or at all); my thoughts go out to her family and friends, it's a frightful loss. The reports say that she had been suffering from depression, though... I think that's the most important thing to take into consideration. That even without her catching all the flak for her tweet [and it was a very poorly phrased tweet that justifiably offended many], there were likely other factors in her life that drove her to take this tragic way out. So at the risk of sounding controversial, I think her final altercation on Twitter must be viewed as incidental, and ultimately not as something that contributed to her death. I am too familiar with the demons of depression and suicidal thought; it's true that you will see minor setbacks through a giant magnifying glass. But it's not the minor setbacks that bring you down, it's your entire state of mind itself-- and if you or someone in your close circle can recognize this, then it's paramount that you seek out help.
