In this instance, that is probably how I would be trying to frame it.

Meanwhile, let's take a look at the actual reality.

    Assertion -

"Congress Person "X" Should Be Speaker Because Of Their Ability To Put The Votes Together. That Is Going To Be Critical When It Comes To Congress Getting Back To An Actual Oversight Body."

On paper, that's a perfectly sensible assertion.

    Out in reality?

It doesn't even look like this person could put the votes together on something as simple as doing something along the lines of actual oversight.

Oh my god. You really can't get anymore ridiculous. 98% of the Dems voted the way you'd prefer and you're crying over the 2% who didn't as if that somehow represents the entire party and, when called on it, you switch tactics to talk about Peolosi. You're just blatantly ridiculous.

    Again...

That's probably how I would be trying to frame this.

Meanwhile, the person who wants to be Speaker couldn't even hold Dems together on something where every Democrat should have been for the US being out of supporting this yesterday.

Edit: Never mind that not being able to do so in a situation where you somehow lucked into ten percent of Republicans being willing to do the right thing is completely unacceptable.

The math is correct, and in a nutshell. That 2% seems tiny. But when it comes ot the people in Yemen who are literally dying because of 5 punk ass Democrats who are now trying to defend their votes on Twitter to their Constituents. There's a disconnect.
I don't care about how "BIPARTISAN" the Bill is. Just the fact that a couple of the morons didn't read the full text of the bill is ridiculous.
So to the thousands, millions in Yemen, suffering because Democrats and Republicans kiss Saudi ass, that 2% isn't just math.

Now that's not fair at all, I try to stay out of these particular debates but Tendrin was clearly saying you can't compare 2% of a party making a bat shit crazy WRONG decision versus 90% of a party making a bat shit crazy WRONG decision. I'm all for naming, shaming and primarying the 2%, but putting this on Democrats as a whole as Thirty is doing, is all kinds of looney.

Yes, what's happening in Yemen is an ongoing tragedy. That's why 98% of Dems voted the way they did and 2% did not. What's your point? That 2% of Dems sucked on this vote? That's a good point and I agree with it. Now, if your argument was that it sucks that it took this long to get here, then yeah I'd agree with that too. What's happening in Yemen is monstrously awful.

But if your argument is '2% of Dems in congress voted badly so this means Dems are the same as Republicans', as 30 is, then get out of here with that noise.

They can bring this up again in the House and Senate next month when the Dems have a strong majority in the House.

    Or...

You could have just held Democrats together and already had it done in a situation where Republicans practically made "Minority"/"Majority" a non-issue.

The other question is what would Pelosi have to give up for those last 5 votes? Would it cost her the speaker position if they vote against her over this? Or would they pry more concessions out of her for a vote or two more (then 30 would be complaining over those last 3)? Only to see the same end result due to the current makeup of the House. Let's expend political capital for no real effect! Dumber ideas have been put out there, but not many.

On this date in 2014, 2015, 2016, as well as 2017, “Crazy/Stupid Republican of the Day posted profiles of Cathrynn Brown, a former a board member of the anti-abortion association Right to Life of Carlsbad who first found her way into the New Mexico House of Representatives in the 2010 Tea Party Wave who in January 2013, submitted a bill that would punish any rape victim seeking an abortion with jail time on that they would be “tampering with evidence” from the crime. This, but only a few months after the downfall of Congressman Todd Akin, and RNC Chairman Reince Priebus pleading with his party members to please stop talking about rape. Brown tried chalking up the whole thing to a “misunderstanding” (yeah, a former board member of an anti-abortion group just ACCIDENTALLY did that) and then shelved her bill, scrubbing most of her social media profile and hoping everyone would forget she did such a thing when the 2014 elections rolled around, and she’d be able to be re-elected. It worked, and since, Brown has continued voting for abortion restrictions, sponsored stricter voter ID laws to combat the statistically non-existent problem of “voter fraud”, tried passing legislation to deny foreign nationals the ability to get drivers’ licenses, and even voted against minimum wage increases. In 2017, Brown showed she’s also terrible on LGBT rights, as she voted against a bill that banned gay conversion therapy in New Mexico.

Cathrynn Brown was re-elected to a fifth term in 2018 by the benefit of getting to run unopposed. We’ll just have to keep hoping someone eventually challenges her and sends her off to a farm upstate for dim-witted conservatives.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel pushes public pension fix to City Council, including legalized marijuana, Chicago casino, constitutional amendment
Emanuel delivered a City Hall speech calling for a state constitutional amendment to allow a reduction in public workers’ pension benefits, an idea several high-profile candidates to follow him in office ripped and new Democratic Gov.-elect J.B. Pritzker dismissed as a non-starter. Emanuel treated his pension blueprint with pomp and circumstance, delivering it to aldermen in a half-hour speech big on legacy building at the start of the City Council meeting.
On Wednesday, candidate Bill Daley took a different tack, leaving open the door to the amendment. “As I said a few weeks ago, everything must be on the table, including amending the state constitution,” he said in a statement. “One thing that cannot be on the table is more prope

I don't know what there is to say about this except they are right. Previous administrations overextended the pensions in the public sector. Even on the local level. Drew Peterson, the cop convicted killing one wife and suspected of killing another (they're still looking for her body) only lost his pension because he was convicted of trying to get a hit on the prosecutor on his case. He was getting $79,000 a year. Teachers in the Chicago Public schools

As reported in the Chicago Tribune, the amount that teachers and other public workers receive in pension https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/...120-story.html is not nearly what they contribute to it.

The average Chicago firefighter hired before January 2011 can retire at age 50 with just 20 years on the job. If that firefighter lives to full life expectancy, he or she will receive pension compensation worth more than $1.3 million.

That firefighter will have contributed a small fraction of that total. Taxpayer money and investment returns make up the rest of the pension formula.
As noted in the article, they need to amend the constitution like Arizona had to when they found themselves in similar mess with pensions. The average teacher's pension from the Chicago public schools is $49,000 and over 1000 teachers earn 6 figure pensions.

The highest payout went to Barbara Cameron, who took home a pension this year of more than $452,000. The Chicago Teachers Pension Fund says her normal pension is $67,000 and the rest was retroactive pay dubbed “Required Minimum distribution.” But the CTPF was not able to clarify further what exactly that means or why she was entitled to such a sizable payout. The second-highest earner was Debra Blackmon-Parrish, a former elementary school teacher and teachers union delegate who was paid a $230,000 pension last year. The pension fund says some of that was retroactive pension pay as well.
Other notables on this list include former CPS superintendent Manford Byrd ($192,000 yearly pension) who retired more than 25 years ago; and Barbara Eason Watkins, who served as chief education officer behind Arne Duncan and Ron Huberman until 2009. In addition to her pension, she works currently as the head of the Michigan City school district.
    That is insane.
