Totally agree with you about Mike W. Barr. Barr's "Son of the Demon" is one of my favorites.

    Cary Bates.

He's been one my favorites since his Legion of Superhero days. The only DC comic I ever bought consistently during my Marvel Zombie years.

He and Dave Cockrum were like magic on that book.

I very much enjoyed his recent Captain Atom. Where is Captain Atom since then?

I wonder why he doesn't get more work at DC.

I also enjoyed Palmiotti and Amanda Conner on Power Girl and Starfire, which I actually preferred a lot to their Harley book.

Yup, Gray & Palmiotti are ALWAYS worth a look.

Marc Andreyko is another one always worth a look at too.

Totally agree. Right before CoIE, Bates' run on "The Flash" was a most pleasant reading experience.

If I had to name a then-writer of comics back in the '70s, I almost certainly would have mentioned his name first. Bates definitely made an impression upon me.

    Andreyko, yes!

I enjoyed his Black Lightning, Blue Devil mini series a few years back. I wish that series would have continued. The only time we saw Blue Devil after that was in Justice League when they were looking for new members.

And of course Skreemer, The Human Target and a short run of classic single-issue stories in Detective Comics.

But yeah, he misses a fair amount too.

Forgot human target was DC. Another quality book.

Never read Skreemer but it sounds like I should. I shall look out for it. Good tip!

When he's on it he really is a top top tier writer for me.

And I remember back when the Human Target was first introduced (1972) in a story written by Len Wein.
