Chinatown. One of the most heartbreaking endings ever.
Bonnie and Clyde, the ambush is one of the best scenes ever.
The Godfather, Michael at the christening which is intertwined with the murders, then confronting Carlos, then lying to Kay.
Speaking of that the sequel where Michael has Fredo killed on the boat is one of the most memorable scenes.

Roman Holiday. A lovely movie all around but the ending is right on, uncompromising.
The Wicker Man. The original, obviously. The movie itself is excellent but had they not gotten the ending right it could have fallen apart. Maybe the second-creepiest ending ever (after the already-mentioned The Vanishing).
The Conversation. Gene Hackman is mesmerizing here.
Time Bandits. So harsh, but so funny, and so in keeping with the rest of the movie. (I don't agree with the notion that the movie just stops. There's a point to how the movie ends: Kevin returns to his world with a deeper understanding of what's behind it and now he has to face it on his own--it's a really, really dark coming of age story.)
Repo Man. "What about our relationship?" "What?" "Our relationship?" "F*** that!"
Planes, Trains, & Automobiles. Come on, if this doesn't make you cry, you have no soul.
Groundhog Day. Should this have won Best Picture over Schindler's List? Maybe! (No, it wasn't nominated.)

I really liked the ending to Her, because I didn't see it coming but it also made sense. That doesn't happen very often.

    Another awesome thread.

Best ending to Any Batman Movie, period.

Other awesome movie endings that completely nailed it would have to be

    Usual Suspects
    Bourne Ultimatum
    Mission Impossible 1
    Saving Private Ryan
    and Memento.

There are others but those are just off the top of my head.

Well, there are many, but the first that comes to my mind is Spider-Man.

    Training day

most people might now agree but I liked how Zach Snyder ended The Watchmen.

Then Logan aswell. Even the last shot with Laura laying the cross on its side

Monty Python and the Holy Grail more or less does both. It just stops, but it's precisely the ending that that movie needed.

Harpier, I'm with kgaard on Time Bandits - it's got a great ending, one of my favourites. Not only does it have everything kgaard mentioned, but I love the visual with the zoom-out and the map grid imposed over the top, locking it all into place. Brilliant.

The Shawshank Redemption. They keep teasing you that Andy has killed himself and the bam it turns out that he has been working on his escape for decades and he gets away like a boss and takes down the corrupt prison officials in the process.

TERMINATOR 2 is all the more impressive because Cameron had considered a longer, more talky conclusion. Happily, he realized that in this case, brevity was the soul of entertainment.

Batman Returns. But only because I am a huge Catwoman fan and Michelle Pfeiffer was so awesome.
Like how The Dark Knight Rises ended too. The mileage of Batman fans may vary.

the ending was better then the movie imo.

The Dark Knight twoface stuff wasn't great for me but if they woulda ended with Joker telling Batman that he couldn't kill him he's just too much fun I woulda loved that ending
