That seems awfully presumptuous of DC, or maybe just justified optimism. Maybe Johns & Franks have sorted out their delays and are confident they can land this thing on time. I'll be very interested to here what actually happened behind the scenes with the entire Rebirth relaunch. Clearly, a lot changed and there were a lot of monkey wrenches thrown into the gears at a few key moments. Hopefully, once the dust has settled, we'll find out the details.

This too can be delayed, but I think they're putting it out to restore faith that the upcoming issues will conclude the series relatively soon.

A tell-all book about the period of N52 through to Rebirth with this as the epilouge would be fascinating. Do they even do those kinds of tell-all books anymore? I remember they were cropping up a lot in the 2000s

It would require someone who was deeply involved in industry, but isn't afraid of burning a few bridges, which is a rare thing. If Tom King's Hollywood career catches on in a big way, he might be willing to spill the beans on what actually went down, but he seems disenchanted with screenwriting already.

Former editors like Eddie Berganza no doubt had to sign extensive NDAs before getting their severance. Any breach of that would likely open them up to financial consequences.

The only reason we know half the dirt we do now is because of gossipy scamps like Rich Johnson, and who knows how often he's getting real dirt and how often it's someone pulling his leg or some lower level DC staffer completely misunderstanding something.

what is there to even know that we don't? John's left rebirth because he had bigger priorities, he never even was going to actually write doomsday clock till he got inspired by trump wining the election somehow. Of course, that meant it was up to the writers and Didio to actually pick up the slack for the actual continuity, which is why we have the mess of the past year or so with all these random directions. I do feel it's getting more united though with this year of the villains thing.

There's plenty we don't know still. Johns was planning on writing the follow up to Rebirth, but decided against it because of his monstrous workload and the inherent risk of attempting to do a sequel to Watchmen. He then changed his mind again following the election.

That's a bit petty isn't it? If you're concerned about delivering on the promise, maybe it'd be better not to have made the promise at all? They could have retained a bit of mystery behind Rebirth rather than put all their cards on the table right away to create intrigue from the reader.

DC seem to have it more together now in regards to long-term planning than they did when Rebirth started.

I don't want to speak for Johns too much, but I think Johns had so much on his plate at that time and even more got dumped on his plate soon after, so I can understand why he was momentarily tempted to say "F*** it. I don't have time. You guys figure it out."

Remember the timeline of all this. DC was tanking quite badly in sales overall. Readers had been driven away by the New 52 reboot stripping the DCU of so much of what they'd liked about it and the readers who'd been brought on board by the fresh start the New 52 had also lost interest in the new directions that strayed too far from what made these characters great to begin with. Didio brought Johns in to course correct, and he came up with Rebirth and shepherded the opening titles.

Then Batman vs Superman landed with a resounding thud and Johns's entire life was upended when Warner Bros. promoted him to co-head of DC Films and charged him with fixing the mess that Snyder & co. had created with literally no time to do it and contradictory marching orders from his bosses. Given the situation he was now in, I totally understand why Johns began to second guess his decision to write a sequel to the most revered story in comics history on top of running a studio while producing & writing half a dozen films & TV shows.

    That's a workload that is, frankly, a little mind-boggling.

If it turns out Johns is writing a LoSH book all the delays would be forgiven.

Johns wrote some of the only LSH stories that clicked for me, so that would be fun. However, I think it's pretty clear that Bendis has laid claim to the Legion when he took over the Superman books.

honestly, do we know if geoff johns is doing ok? I saw shazam got delayed a little last month. It seems clear Gary Frank should at least be able to handle a bi monthly schedule.
