Well, yeah. It totally depends what story they replace that one with. There's always something more ridiculous, as well as something that makes perfect sense.

Here, I've got one that falls somewhere in between. It's ridiculous in that it introduces more moving parts and would be really confusing, and would make certain characters' motivations in past stories kind of weird, but here we go...

There was never a Magda, or if there was, the real one never made it to Wundagore Mtn.... Magda was either a memory insert via magic, or was duplicated/possessed before she got to the mountain. Instead, the twins' mother was a time-travelling Morgan Le Fay, who came to the right future time to consummate a special relationship/ritual with the Elder God Chthon in his place of power. The twins' powers are and have always been essentially supernatural in nature, especially Wanda's (although who knows what untapped potential Pietro might turn out to have once all this is revealed), in the same way as those of the Brothers Grimm or the Puppet Master's clay figurines. After giving birth, Morgan made herself appear to die and returned to her own time. Wyndham, the High Evolutionary, knew there was something weird about the twins, so he kept them in suspended animation to study them for a period of time, and ended up performing some genetic manipulation to make it appear that they were active X-gene bearing mutants, a group he'd been (retconned into) studying in his quest for the keys to evolution, before passing them off to the Maximoffs and their Roma tribe.

Of course, besides being convoluted to the degree of silliness, the above would kind of result in the twins being the Anti-Christ, but there you go...

Just saw this on Brevoort's Formspring Tumblr and thought it was actually brilliant:

When you get your information from a cow, you shouldn’t be surprised when some of it turns out to be bull.

I saw that too last night. So makes you wonder if they are going to revisit Wundagore and the circumstances of their birth. It can't be any worse that what it already is, since Magda's being there was something that got tacked onto Bob and Madeline Frank's story.

Anyway, even if these links weren't manageable, making them not Mags' kids doesn't really help, because it's still the case that everybody thought it sounded plausible for years in-universe, so you still need an explanation for why they thought that sounded reasonable.
Yeah, but there's still a looming problem with having Magneto be at all viable for Uncanny X-Men v1 #1. That should have made him about 80, and soon, it'll be over 100.

Then there's just the timeline problem. Franklin's CE is a recent thing. But that's easy to overcome.

Oh boy... this idea could retcon any number of previously classified mutants.

After reading the rest of February's solicits, I think we can rule out Franklin's CE. Fantastic Four in the same month is dealing with it, which is now supposedly in another dimension.

That's true, even with Magneto's first appearance being ~13 years ago Marvel time, if he was a young man in 1941, that's late 70s- early 80s right now (unless he's younger in the camps to match with the Fox movies), and it advances each year to the point that he needs some kind of mutant longevity power or suspended animation or Infinity Formula prior to his first appearance and the Alpha the Ultimate Mutant thing in order to be hale and hearty enough to take over Cape Citadel and fight the X-Men. Either that, or retcon that part of his origin.

Essentially they need to make a change at the point where Sir Ian starts looking too feeble. ;-)

Maybe the HE has manufactured yet another one while nobody was looking.

I still want to know at what point he got demoted from the cosmic force of creation to match Galactus' status as a force of destruction, to the delusional, genocidal, and ineffectual villain trying to save Earth from a Celestial judgment that's already occurred or not happening in New Warriors. Not that his status isn't usually in flux from appearance to appearance, but usually they try to provide some kind of explanation for how it happens, and this time they haven't bothered (yet).

Tom B has discussed the Magneto aging problem that came about with his being alive during the Holocaust also, or any character that goes back that far without the magic elixer scenario. It's not simply that the aging slows down it's that it starts and stops pretty randomly. They age quickly enough to be an adult during the Holocaust then what happens between 1941 and 1971 or 1991, etc. At what age was he when he knew Charles back in Israel? And then when he forms the Brotherhood?

Maybe this isn't Wanda and we're looking at another Jean Gray/Pheonix scenario?

I'm not sure the start and stop thing is really a big deal; I can't really think of a lot of examples of characters with extreme longevity or immortality who by that same token take a longer time to reach adulthood. Vali Halfling, some versions of fantasy elves, who else? It's more usual for such characters to have a normal length childhood, reach adulthood, and then spend either a much longer time or forever in their prime.

Which is the illogical part of it. If they age slowly then they could spend a decade or two at a one year old level and then the two year level, etc. Would the physical development be slow as well? And how about their mental capacity? I am thinking back to a similar situation with the character of Claudia in "Interview with the Vampire". She was in the body of a child and would remain that way. Mentally and emotionally she grew up but she still looked like a 10 year old girl, the age at which she went through the transformation.

It's not really illogical, though, because 'aging' is not just one thing, and maturation and aging to senescence could quite logically be two different processes. In fact, gerontologists tend to believe they are, based on (among other things) the fact that victims of progeria can suffer all the signs and ailments of old age before they've even fully grown up. In essence, the body has more than one 'clock' (in fact, there might be more than one 'clock' contributing to the 'bad' parts of aging).

So, if the slowed aging is due to anything other than somebody playing with time or suspended animation (or, I guess, versions of vampirism that leave you stuck at your age of 'death'), that is to say is due to some biological difference, it's perfectly conceivable that aging in the sense of getting older and weaker and closer to death could be slowed down or stopped, without doing anything to the time table for growing to maturity.

Well, to be sincere, Marvel stopped making any sense around 2005.
