Andy Taylor for me. The show tackles many of the same issues with him as a Sheriff as you would get as a father, plus the usual father stuff. And the cast of characters were exactly the kinds of challenges a dad always faces. Aunt Bee was the best, she is such a damn shrew at times (apparently she hated the show, or the cast or something).

Shout out to Captain Sisko, though. I had major respect for that show and the way he was presented as a dad. That and the friendship between Jake and Nog.

Remember the episode when Jake was teaching Nog to read?

Ward Cleaver - Leave it to Beaver

Jed Clampett - The Beverly Hillbillies
    Bruce Wayne - Batman
Red Forman - That 70's Show
    Gan Conner - Roseanne
This would probably be my favorite of best fathers, though I could just be biased because it's a piece of my childhood.

Sisko had to juggle his duties as commanding officer and father, widowed and all. He never let his worries get in the way of being the best father he could be to him.

Speaking of Star Trek fathers, how would you all rate Worf as a father. Good, bad, deadbeat?

Robert Queen. He literally killed himself so his son could live.

A good dad to everyone but Emiko (and a terrible husband to boot)...

A million times this because it was great on so many levels. As a white person I can't even imagine how important this portrayal was to black dads out there who are doing their best to be good fathers when the stereotype is the opposite. But as a father who had sole custody of his two kids and raised them by himself from the ages of 7 and 3 and I really can relate from the father side. Too often dads on TV are portrayed as bumbling idiots or as "babysitting" rather than parenting. Seeing a father doing it on his own and doing it well was awesome.

From the DS9 documentary they mentioned that there was a compilation list of black tv dads and Sisko was completely ignored and treated as if he never was on tv.
