If I recall the individual trades work fine and they are certainly cheaper than the omnibi. Hell at this point you can probably get the entire series in bargain bins at your local comic shop. I found 90% of my Starman collection in the bargain boxes at various stores.

Well, for all we know that could have been somebody besides Ted dressed similar to Starman (David Knight maybe?), or Snyder's plans have changed since then.
The latter possibility isn't unheard of when it comes to Snyder; back during the New52, when they had that month (in 2012) with all those "#0" issues, Snyder's main Batman story was suppose to lead into his big "Zero Year" epic, but didn't even get included in the two "Zero Year" collected editions. Instead, it was lumped in with the "Graveyard Shift" collected edition of odds-n-ends issues. (And that #0 story really didn't seem to fit in with the two "Zero Year" arcs without some changes to the issue in terms of timing of things.)

If I am remembering right they skipped over the Times Past issues in the trades for some stupid reason. They collected the first few in a seperate trade at one point, but I am not sure if they ever collected the rest so there are a lot of issues missing if you just get the trades. I have the whole run in trades but since they skipped them I am missing issues 36, 42, 44, 46, 54, and 74. Maybe they changed this in latter versions of the trades I don't know, but it really sucked they chopped it up this way in the original trades.
