So I saw someone on this forum describe Garth Ennis' run on Punisher MAX as "God-Tier".

Not everyone may agree on that, but what are some other runs from specific writers/creators that you consider "God-Tier"?

Could be specific story lines as well.

Only opinions here folks.

Havent read it yet, but I've heard people consider Remender's Uncanny X-Force run in this tier.

Brubaker/Fraction/Aja Immortal Iron Fist
Lee/Ditko Doctor Strange
Jim Steranko's Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Those are off the top of my head.

I am about to start the Miller Daredevil.

Have read Claremonts X-Men and agree of course

I take this to mean almost "what are your favorite arcs"?

I have a special folder for favorite arcs/runs, some of them are...


- Priests Black Panther Run, specifically The Client and Enemy of the State but its all great
- Aaron's See Wakanda and Die arc
- Remenders Uncanny X-Force, spefically the Dark Angel saga but its all fantastic
- Remender's Venom run
- Punisher MAX
- Aarons Thor: God of Thunder run, specially the God Butcher/Gorr arc (1-11 i think)


There are some other runs in that folder (including Liss's run on black panther specifically the Kingpin arc) but those are the first 6 that pop in my head.

Agree with some that have already been posted,

Punisher Max - Ennis
UXF - Remender
Thor: GoT - Aaron (particularly the Godbutcher/Godbomb arc)

I'd also add

Planet Hulk - Greg Pak
Punisher Max - Aaron
New X-Men - Morrison

Since the stories are now being folded together with 616, I recommend Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch's Ultimates Volumes 1 and 2 as being essential to understand both the Marvel movies and current comics.

I would also add Lee and Ditko's Amazing Spider-Man is essential.

As a more quirky choice, I would add Lee and Ditko's Dr. Strange stories from Strange Tales.

And then there are the great Daredevil writers: Millar back in the 80s and, more recently, Bendis, Brubaker and now Waid.

And, following from jphamlore's suggestion of Ultimates, Bendis + Bagley on Ultimate Spider-Man definitely ranks up there.

It's interesting, because quite a few of the modern suggestions on this thread so far (like Punisher, Aaron's Thor, Remender's Uncanny X-Force and Venom and the Daredevil comics) aren't typical 'superhero' stories.

What does "god-tier" mean? Things we personally find near-perfect? Things that are lauded by many as the height of a particular character or title?

I take it as meaning both: critically acclaimed by the majority and something you found personally enjoyable.
