He used to be a long time ago. Then too many bad stories have made him just a mess. Most writers after Age of Apocoylpse just had no idea how to use him right and ruined the character.
I have said for years the best way to save the character is have it revealled that the real Big A has been healing since the X-Cutioners Song and all the one since have just been fakes created by Ozymandias to hide that his master was healing. That or have him secretly inside of that kid Even until he is finally able to take over fully reformed and free of all the Celestial programing.

Oh how I loved those über dramatic lines he made in TAS! I remember thinking how silly and corny he was so seeing him not talk like that in comics was shocking to me. Incidentally Big A was the first villain X-Men faced when I started reading x-books so that alone insures that he'll always have a place on my list of best x-villains. of course it helps that he has a cool background with Celestials and being an ancient mutant. He needs to be in the same league as Darkseid and Thanos as this nearly unbeatable almost godlike being

I see some potential there. If the Cold War aspect is played up, maybe he could lead Genosha or an Akkaba city-state as a third superpower, or a nation that the two superpowers are courting or invading.

I'm also excited about his role to play in mutant-dom through the ages. Is he still the first mutant in the comics? Or is that selene?

Love Apocalypse, by far one of my favourite villains. Anyone watch Days of Future's Past? Got me really pumped for the next movie.

I loved Apocalypse in the old days, he was a great villain. Now, not so sure anymore. As for the film - I set my hopes high. But the scene after the credits was a disappointment imo.
