The year is 2019 and the Heckfire Club is an exaggerated Claremont reference where random characters just hang out. In-universe, Emma taking over the HFC is nothing more than a personal achievement because it has no purpose in the world and can be casually bowled over by both Magneto and like 5 people on Warlock juice. It has no reason to exist. It's not a team anymore, it's not an organization anymore, it is a club.

Emma taking over wasn't a personal achievement, it was character regression. While evil rich men doing horrible things is more in vogue than ever, the HFC itself serves no purpose.

The previous Hellfire Clubs from across the world all wanted moeny through Sentinel sales like Kilgore and even Shaw to an extent, great power like Shaw again, the Ultimate Hellfire Club was a Phoenix Cult/Freemasons, and Selene's Inner Circle were dedicated to worshiping her. These days, the club is as clueless as the USSR was.

When Emma took over, the goal was to provide sanction and resources for mutants all over the world. But X-Men Black ended up not mattering at all except for two pages in Rosenberg’s rushed ass run.

As someone who found comics way after the Hellfire Club was cool, it always just seemed more like a joke. Plus, itnjust seemed sort of offensive and weird, especially as our society became more sex positive.
