I feel as though the original coloring was more distinctive and while not quite psychedelic it was definitely more stylized, while the new coloring seems to goes for a more realistic bent.

That's something that I feel like a lot of modern recoloring does, it eschews the feel of the original coloring and instead opts for a more realistic look, i.e. the Killing Joke recoloring. It would have been awesome if they offered the Omni in both colorings but I know that isn't realistically feasible.

Additionally the covers included in the book are strictly the art without any of the titling or anything. This is most noticeable on the first issue in the book, Thor #338. In the Omni it is just a picture of Beta Ray Bill swinging Mjolnir, which is fine, but the original image had Bill smashing the Thor logo, which showed that some serious business was going down, as at the time no one knew who this mysterious character was.

I'll probably keep the Omni for the time being once I'm finished reading it but once the Epics covering his run come out I could easily see myself getting those and trading the Omni.
I love it. Worth the price.

Should I go for Hickmans Avengers omnibus? My biggest regret is missing the Gauntlet omnibus and it is so pricey.

I recently bought it and the giant Batman and Robin by Gleason and Tomasi. No regrets

Afaik there's a pretty big gap between BND and any ohcs. All of ASM v2 and 500-540 or so are in various collections. Then nothing until Spider Island then EotE. And of course everything since SSM has been collected (SSM v1-3, ASM (v3) v1-2, ASM (v4) v1-3...). The event ohcs if you count those (Spider-verse & Clone Conspiracy) and the Family Business graphic novel.

Absolutely. If you can get the whole Hickman Avengers run plus Secret Wars, I would definitely do it. Also, if you haven't bought his FF run, I would get that too.

    I love Tomasi's B&R run

Yeah, huge gap. I wonder if we might get a BND Omnibus soon.

Is the Hickman Secret Wars hardcover an OHC?

I wouldn't call it an OHC. It's not really thick, but you can get it in HC format.

Yep, same size as all of Marvel’s recent event OHCs.

OHC refers to the trim of the book (i.e. cover and page dimensions), not thickness. Yes, it is an OHC.

Yes. It's an excellent run. However, I would recommend not beginning it till you have the second omnibus and Secret Wars. I find that Hickman benefits from reading the entire story start to finish with no breaks.

Also, Secret Wars isn't just then end of his Avengers run. It's the culmination of basically everything he wrote for Marvel. So his work on Fantastic Four (unfortunately OOP and pricey) and Ultimates (not OHC) isn't necessary, but would add to it.

The thickness isn't the question. It is oversized, therefore it is OHC.

I know. That's what I get for not physically checking first. I was thinking it was a smaller HC.

Exactly the answer I was looking for. Thanks!
