I've posted it before in the topics kjn shared, but my solution is for Wonder Woman to "own" ARGUS in her corner of the DCU world, like Batman owns Arkham or Superman owns StarLABS and Cadmus.

I bristle at the thought of ARGUS solely being relegated to mythical or magical concerns - as it's too limiting for Diana and she should be allowed to function and thrive in sci-fi, espionage, detective, technology, extraterrestrial, horror, etc. areas and stories of the DCU too. Make ARGUS a quasi-governmental agency dealing with the "weird" in the DCU and have Steve as a high-ranking operative in the organization. Diana Prince and Wonder Woman freelance with them a bit as they attempt to make the world a safer place in a world of aliens, magic, myth, fringe science made real, metahumans, gods and goddesses, alternate dimensions, magical items, etc.

Steve should be a bright shiny light in the government versus other shadier organizations and departments. He's the yin to Amanda Waller's yang. and amazingly capable and canny in dangerous and preposterous situations that rely on skill and improvisation.

He and Diana share wanting to make the world a better place and at times sacrifice a lot to do so.

To toss in my own two cents, I think Steve Trevor is perfectly fine as a spy whose also an ace pilot. This has worked in the past as a means for either Steve to become involved in one of Wonder Womans adventures, or for Diana to find out about goings ons which would be hidden from the public eye. The pilot aspect ties into Dianas origin and sets a precedent for him piloting the invisible jet.

The golden age stuff more worked to establish that he had a life outside of work. Which is sensible because it shows us what Diana sees in him, what qualities he has and all that. While you can define Selina Kyle or Lois Lane by their jobs, its hard nowadays to seperate Selina from the orphanage background and animal lover thing, or Lois from being an army brat.

The only reason why there has been little history with Steve in recent decades is because post crisis wrote him out of her life. Simply having them hang out would do wonders.

As for what to do with Steve in general, well go and give him an origin. I mean pre crisis gave hints of things. Established he had a sister who was married with a daughter, that he had a brother who was part of a secret organization and hated Steve, that he had dropped out of school before graduating so he could get a job to support his family. That his first job was as a cabin boy. Established him being a boy scout leader, that hes close friends with seemingly everyone in the military, and that he regularly takes Diana on dates from dances, to fancy resturaunts, to picnicing...

And post crisis gave him that whole 'my mom crash landed on paradise island back in the 40s and was never seen again and im in by late 50s~' thing

I really loved GA Steve. This also makes me want him to have his own arcs? He can be his own character if they brought back what he does also outside of being in the military. How would Diana be able to turn ARGUS into a more magical unit? Going back to my idea of Gateway City being actually that. It would make it a lot easier. That part of the goverment is both U.S and Gateway other dimension or could just be limited to just Gateways. Although I wouldn't mind if Diana's crashing origin can still stay. That she was stuck a bit longer. There she told Steve this story of mythical creatures and many other things. This causes him to be more open to Gateway life. That the mythical, alien and other interesting life is all around him. Gateway is open to everyone you just have to look for it. I mean Why can't Steve somewhat already have involvement in mythical side of DC?

Putting aside a general disagreement that there is any need to make Steve more mythical and magical (seriously, do people insist Lois Lane switches jobs to become a specialist in Kryptonians?) DC never really gave Argus a solid purpose. New 52 gave us an Argus that was just the military supporting the Justice League. A team controlled by Amanda Waller. Later, it was established that they just go around collecting all of the artifacts alien or magical that pop up and lock them away for safe keeping. They have not really been fleshed out in any way. Heck, I don't think its even been established that Etta Candys even related to Argus, yet shes supposed to be a vague military type of another unexplained group.

To be fair those mystical and magical threats aren't ever the epicenter of a big event. It's always space aliens and cosmic being threats. Can you really get mad when magic isn't all the defined in the DCU. In Justice League Dark they even mention how Wonder Woman is not in tune to the magic world which is Diana's corner.

Doesn't Steve have an actually reason know about that stuff than Lois needs to know about kryptonians. I mean he actually goes out to fight that stuff. I dont think there is any harm in Diana showing Steve mystical stuff and creatures. (Are you saying he shoud be like Lois?)

Im objecting to the idea that we need to establish Steve as specifically this soldier specifically meant to deal with magical and mythological threats. Look at that one shot by the Grayson writer. He knew there was a villain named Saturna and that she was part of a group called 'the crimson men' Knowing the names and faces of villains is pretty much all he needs. He offers alot more in that role over making him part of an organization specifically for magic stuff who only deals with magic problems.

No that's what I meant. That he should at least know about stuff, not that he should specialize in handling those situations.

I think what Fuzzy was getting at is that it's not clear that Trevor Barnes even exists, or ever existed, in the current continuity (if we can even use the phrase "current continuity..."). I don't think he's been seen since before the start of The New 52.

I plan on picking up the Phil Jimenez Wonder Woman omnibus in February
Was not a big fan of the issues ( Wonder Woman 164-188) when I first read them.
But with all the different twists and turns Wonder Woman's titles has had since with
re-launch after re-launch and her history flip flopping around and men entering
and leaving her life, I feel I can probably better appreciate his run now.

Steve has a solid foundation with his ARGUS ties. ARGUS should be for DC what SHIELD is for Marvel. All the other government bodies like SHADE or the Suicide Squad should be under ARGUS control. I wouldn’t shy away from having Steve be a little more morally grey than Diana. Batman and Catwoman’s relationship thrives due to tying the sexual attraction between the two with the conflict of Batman’s justice conflicting with Catwoman’s kleptomania. Superman and Lois also have a lot of initial tension due to to Lois’ ability to ferret out secrets while Clark is keeping one of the biggest ones under her nose. A little tension in the relationship goes a long way.

I just don't want to see Diana get limited to magic and myth when she's a "bigger" character than that and can operate in many, many more genres, themes, and story types.

Honestly, I don't see Diana as an inherently magical being. She might be a demigod or clay transmuted to flesh and have her lasso, but she's not a spellcaster or a mystic, etc. I'm finding her leading Justice League Dark interesting in that she's the leader, but she's not about to be a magic user or sorceress.

So, while she might have some more experience going up against magic with Circe or Dark Angel routinely bothering her, but I don't agree that it's anymore her corner of the DCU than Batman or Superman leading the team and making good leadership decisions based on the information, magical or mundane, at hand.

Besides, ARGUS was created to bridge and address the mysteries and threats of the magical, mythical, technological, mystical, extraterrestrial, extradimensional, scientific, etc. world of the DCU and protect it. They shouldn't limit it now just because Diana is involved with it and there's this ridiculous need to pigeonhole her into one corner of the DCU. The DCU is more complex than that and Diana is certainly more complex than that and can deal with any threats the DCU throws at her.
