I think the idea here is to make the comic Killmonger what he was in the MCU... be someone you can sort of root for. It's the notion that everyone is the hero of their own story and we're seeing that here. And they're doing it in the way heroes typically are treated... he gets knocked down, so in the end he can rise up and overcome the odds.

I think they can be forgiven in not giving an uber Killmonger because this is a Year One story. He doesn't have any of his power upgrades, and he likely hasn't gotten a lot of the training he likely will get down the line.

I suppose I'm ok with Blade (instead of Killmonger) being the Vegeta to Black Panther's Goku. Too much of a hassle to position Erik in that role at this point (with him being dead and all), whereas Eric has the right type of loud combative dickhead personality to compliment T'Challa's more passive-aggressive dickhead persona. And while both Eric and Erik have comparable physical traits to BP, Eric has an easier road for distinction from BP if muthafuckas ever choose to expand or evolve his vampire abilities... like how writers expand and evolve BP's tech and use of vibranium.

Plus Eric and T'Challa appearing on the big screen together would be a top-3 Wrestlemania moment. The crowd reaction would be deafening

I know right! All buddy does in this mini is get his ass WHOOPED and then survives because of "reasons". Rinse and repeat.

This book does nothing for the character, and pushes no envelop. Just pretty art and a nice story about a 3rd rate lackey with angry problems working for a 2nd rate lackey working for a Daredevil villain. It's a GREAT Gary story but a head-scratching Erik story

Trevante as Blade!

For MCU purposes, I think they can bush the whole London bastard from a british whore comic origin. We can just rock with the Wesley Snipes origin (don't even need to linger on it) but have him ditch the leather jacket and just rock his current gear in the Avengers

Trevante needs to star as Blade in a Blade movie about vampires, werewolves, monsters, and all the dark magical demon characters!

MCU Killmonger was a genius killing machine who played a long game of getting in front of T'challa and kicking his ass.

comic Killmonger is a cunning, rebellion building, coup planning, ass kicking dude with a pet leopard.

prequel Killmonger is... a ladies man, lackey with anger problems getting his ass beat lol?


The thing is... the book is good lol. That is what is kinda frustrating. The dialogue is good. THe art is superb. It isn't a bad story at all. This isn't a Shuri/WoW/Long Live the King situation where it is all just a dumpster fire.

It is just an odd KILLMONGER book.

Trevante as Blade!

But since you put it out there....he would make a great Blade. At least in the MCU, we know Trevante would be in a great film. Plus, Tessa learned a new accent, so it would not be too hard for Trevante to have a very slight one.

The book ultimately isn't trying to be what you want it to be. It's not a book showing how uber and awesome he is. It's a character piece about what makes a guy like him into a killing machine. By the time he gets to being what you're describing, the character development is basically already set.

And yes, to some that might be boring. I sort of enjoy it... but it's not a book you might enjoy if you want to see this guy kicking every butt in sight. It's a year one story. Like a lot of characters, he needs to struggle to eventually become the character we know.

Yeah, i mean don't get me wrong, issue 4 is well done in every sense except the plot. Erik should of powered up by now, been dangerous AF from the start. But oh well I guess
