Reaction #1) Hey, Alex drew Firestorm again!
Reaction #2) I enjoy figuring out when these portraits could have taken place, continuity-wise, particularly for a stickler like Ross. In this case, it looks like this could have been somewhere between June of 1980 (when Firestorm joined the JLA) and mid-1983 (when the "Black Canary is her own daughter" story happened). The absences of the Earth-Two Batman and Mr. Terrific (owing to their deaths in 1979) makes it fit.
Reaction #3) Making J'onn stand next to Firestorm seems kind of rude.

J'onn's position may be due to his being the sci-fi counterpart to the Spectre.

True, but just as Aquaman was a Submariner knockoff, the character has more published appearances, and certainly more stories centering around him than his inspiration.

Oooh, I lose several hundred geek points for that flub. Seriously. I mean, that's something I actually *know*, in my bones. And yet (sigh).

In my (mild) defense, I was thinking more about Snapper's later appearances (Blasters, Hourman), when writers briefly tried to make him as hip as Rick Jones had gotten over in Peter David's Hulk. Waitasecond, that first Blasters Special was written by.... dang.

Will wait and see if Geoff Johns' writing is as inconsistent as it has been for the past +/-decade or if he'll be more focused and on-point again as he once was able to be.

You've got the Newsboy Legion, Wing, Secret, Merry Girl of a Thousand Tricks (?), Robotman's dog, what looks like a new take on Sweep Second and a bunch of newcomers: A Human Bomb sidekick (probably linked to the Bomb's short lived sidekicks the Bombadiers), a new Mr. Terrific sidekick, a Wicked Witch expy (Who could this be linked to?) and what looks like someone linked to New Frontier's John Henry.
