Here's bits of trivia - Gambit's accepted middle name "Etienne" was thought up by a famous ROMY fic writer by the name of Lori McDonald. It became such a common part of his cannon that even Marvel now officially lists it as his middle name.
Another major fan fiction influence on actual cannon is in parts of X/Laura's personality and relationships, because you know...Ascian.

Official non-canon stories or fanfic?
For fanfic I would take the popular 'scogan' pairing and retcon Cyclops and Wolverine as on-again, off-again lovers, mainly because they have more chemistry together than they ever did with their respective romantic interests. Also, it would be hilarious and I'd love to see the reactions.

I nominate X-Men/Teen Titans from the early 80's. It was the first appearance of Cyclophoenix!
I will also nominate Marvel vs. DC/Amalgam comics.
And the WildCATS/X-Men crossovers, especially for the Grifter/Jean romance!

There were like 4? Awesome art, stories ranged from excellent to eh. Golden age(WW2), Silver age(O5), Modern age(ANAD) and Dark age(DoFP) or something.

I did generally like that crossover though (especially the Modern Age issue)...and would much rather have Wildstorm integrated into Marvel than DC.

I think I'd like to see X-Men First Class become continuity...I really loved those books.
On a side note, I wouldn't want them merged with 616 but I would love to see a revived Exiles team that specifically visits the realities from the several Millennial Visions one shots Marvel did around 2000...some of those one page blurbs were very interesting and it would be cool to see them fleshed out more.
