For me it's not really a matter of suffering that was inflicted. I just would not buy that friendship no matter how well written it could be. I take friendships *very* seriously. True friendship for me, is even more important than romantic love. So much so I could never fall for someone who wasn't a friend. My partner is my best friend and if we ever split, he'll continue to live in my heart and be one of the most important person in my life.
Really curious: do you think forgive = forget?
I'm sure Jean can and has forgiven Emma already, because she's Jean and she understood why Emma did the stuff she did. But again... it really depends on what you call "friendship". Friendship for me is more than a state of non-animosity, it's more than professional respect or even admiration...
