There's been a rumor for months also that there us a caveat in the original contract that makes the rights nontransferable and if Comcast buys Fox the Marvel rights will revert back to Marvel. Truth is this merger is not about X-Men, Deadpool, and FF even for Disney it's about the entire entity that is Fox and all their I.P.'s.
ALL HAIL THE HADARI YAO, THE OMEGA'S OMEGA, BEYOND OMEGA, THE VOICE OF SOL!!!! NOW AGAIN THE ONE TRUE AND ONLY GODDESS OF THE X-MEN AS CLAREMONT INTENDED!!!!!
No they don't own them just like Sony doesn't own Spider-Man they leased the film rights we already know for a fact the film rights revert back to Marvel if films aren't made every few years. So it's very possible this rumor is true and there is a caveat that also says the film rights are non transferable and in case of company sale revert back to Marvel.

This whole Comcast thing is wishful thinking by fans not happy with the MCU. It makes no sense at all. If fans want the X-Men to return to prominence within Marvel they want Disney to be the buyer. If Comcast buys the X-Men they might just be cancelled as an ongoing book. Disney will own Fox though when it's all over. Trump tweeted about what a great deal it was when it was announced. Justice is only going after the time Warner thing because of CNN. The government is going to lose that case and then won't have any objections to FOX Disney and the X-Men etc. will be home.
Oh and I can't see Disney being outbid by anyone. This is happening.
As one last aside I wanted to point out that the Comcast stuff is pure rumor from sources cited by the WSJ. Comcast hasn't actually announced that they are still in the running.

Well, I have a moderate dislike for the direction Fox takes with its main 'X-Men' movies (they do all right with the spin-offs), and I love the MCU.
And the comcast thing is a genuine possibility. It's not something some fans made up.
Important to remember that the shareholders want their cut and that's a safe bet with Disney with a lot of potential to make more down the road. Not so much with Comcast. Comcast is not in the shareholders best 'interest' , which is why there hasn't been a forced vote even though Comcast offered 10b more up front.
In my opinion Comcast is a horrible company, and their garbage customer service is probably well known by Fox shareholders who probably have to put up with them personally as their home service. Oh the sweet, sweet justice porn that would be if that ended up being the reason Fox and its shareholders didn't pick Comcast as a group. Reap what you sow Comcast you smuts.
So is it safe to assume that those who prefer the X-Men license stay away from Disney aren't gamers?
I think they are either younger folks that grew up on Singer's ...'version'...of the X-Men and that's what they know or they are right-wing conservatives that hate Disney (and I say that as a conservative myself). The folks like me that grew up on comic book X-Men and even TAS X-Men just want a return to prominence and Disney is the ONLY company that can give that back to us. (games, marketing, apparel, better stories, better movies etc)
