For a lot of people they are.

I also don't buy that we need to desexualise these adult characters because they are also aimed at kids, most kid/teenage shows also deals with love interest.

While I agree that the shipping drama can make some fandom toxic I do not think that the solution is cancelling relationships in YA fiction, at some point everyone needs to learn to accept that sometimes their prefered pairings will not happen.

I honestly don't give a f#ck about Batman's sex life (pun intended!) in general. But it seems like an adult animated series like Harley Quinn is the one place where Batman going down on Catwoman should have been A-okay!

Also, the argument that "Heroes don't do that" is ludicrous, to put it mildly

Obviously they aren't going to ever get rid of relationships, and I was being a bit facetious about it, but maybe these relationships causes people to get too invested at times as well, and maybe that leads to fans or even creators inserting their own want or desires too much into these characters fictional personal lives. This whole story is funny because of how badly DC worded their explanation, but do we really need to see Batman preforming oral sex on Catwoman in a cartoon? Or see an image of Batman's penis in a panel? I don't really know if that is a path these characters should go down, but I also am someone that has no interest in seeing it.

At their core I still think of these superhero characters as children's characters. So I guess that forms my opinion. As serious as you want to try and make a Batman he is still a guy running around in a bat costume. You can still tell mature stories, but there is a line I think. For the most part even when a superhero like a Batman or a Spider-man has sex they don't really have sex. They only show the lead up, aftermath, or it is off panel. Not always but for the most part at least. Intent is what is important over actually seeing what sex positions these characters use, but when you start trying to show more explicit things you kind of blur the line between selling pornography-like stories over more expected stories. You can end up with things like the Nightwing and Tarantula scene.

This isn't just for sex stuff, but even for over the top violence or even things like rape. There is a line. Some might like seeing Superman rip people apart like a piece of paper, but is that really appropriate? Or do you want to see a character brutally sexually assaulted? Or do I need to know if Batman likes anal sex in some cartoon? They are all kind of lumped together for me. Intent is still the most important thing, and if there is some really great story behind the motivation then maybe more explicit things would be okay, but if the intent is just because you want to show it then it probably isn't worth it.

I kind of went on a tangent there and typed more than I expected to, but I guess I think that these superhero comic book characters are stretched way thin trying to appeal to everyone where situations like this come up more than a lot of fictional IPs. I don't think a Bulma and Vegeta in Dragonball are ever going to be put in these kind of situations for example, lol.

Far be it from me to excuse torture, but it isn't too surprising that violence is more expected in a superhero story than sex.

I don't think that it is really about superheroes being for kids. For an extreme example Godfather is not aimed at children, but do I need to see what kind of sexual acts Vito Corleone likes to do?

Batpenis and Barbara having sex with Bruce in animated movie were massive mistakes, just because they happened it doesn't mean that more stupid things to the characters should be done.

"It is aimed at adults, who cares" - lets not be naive, everything is connected.

Shipping wars have done a lot of damage to superhero comics.

Cunnilingis was a no-no on another HBO show, The Sopranos. Uncle Junior got ribbed hard by Tony for going down.

No way the Cat has more than a passing interest in a Bat that doesn't eat....

But anywho, DC has always had weird rules about what Batman is allowed to do. Remember during the new-52 when they told some writer that Bats doesn't sit?

I think DC tries to maintain the "purity", so to speak, of their Trinity as best as they can while adapting with the times. Somehow, dining down south made it onto their ****-list and it's not surprising, particularly with Batman. Glorification of physical violence is way more readily accepted or expected in American comics than sexuality.

But if there was ever going to be any show where this made sense, it would be Harley Quinn haha. They could just have a talk over drinks where Harls ask Selina how good Batman is in bed and let the hilarity ensure.

Truth to be told, as low as I regard DC management, even I think most of them would be okay with the scene. This smells like one key power player who unfortunately also has the final say in this particular instance nixing it. I don't know that we can blame DC at large here, as much as I hold them in low regard. The idea that DC is full of prudes is fishy to me.

So to summarize, Batman doesn't masturbate, doesn't sit, doesn't have a dick, and doesn't eat pussy
No wonder Catwoman left him at the altar

This is from the Harley Quinn show? The place where we would expect to hear about something like this?

I didn't know Batman was taking advice from someone like Dr. Psycho "Only weak men do that *laughter*"

I don't think we need to desexualize them either, although I don't think I need to se Batman engaging in oral sex (personally).

I think on some level I get that Superheroes are kind of in that place of being all ages while still approaching mature themes and stories and that's part of why they've still remained as relevant as they are.

I don't think we need to see the actual physical depiction of sex but I think it can be acknowledged as being part of a relationship.

    Funny that you mentioned Bulma.

I pretty sure what she had to endure in the original DB, which is 100% a anime for children, it's much worse than a cartoon aimed at adults implying that Batman likes to going down on his girlfriend.
DC: Dick Grayson, Wally West, Donna Troy, Yara Flor, Titans

Some of my favorite Mangas: One Piece, Slam Dunk, Fullmetal Alchemist, HunterXHunter, Vinland Saga, Monster, Berserk, Vagabond.
Current reading: Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man, Spy X Family, Kaiju Nș8, Blue Lock, Dandadan.

    The Batman plans for everything.

Foreplay is no different. And Catwoman being something of a Dom? I mean, their sexcapades almost invariably feature Houdini-Level escape tricks and tying things up. And that being said, other than that I never actually imagine or give a crap what Batman and Catwoman do in the bedroom and don't need to see it other than the concept of "they have somebody to come home to sometimes when the sun comes up and they're tired and sleeping during the day" and are quite meant for each other.

But this smacks of some strangeness just because DC already let's H.Q. go all in with the adult and raunchy comedy stuff so it's like, where's your line? It's already been crossed, hasn't it? And this is an R-Rated Continuity Universe for Adults Only, so this R-Rated Batman can have whatever R-Rated variables the R-Rated story requires.

But anyway the jokes part of my brain is just rationalizing it because Catwoman always wears skintight leather in all weather and there's some chafing and Batman always has Frank Miller levels of grizzly stubble shadow and it's just like sandpaper on her sore thighs, and THAT'S why "Batman Doesn't Do That". Not because Old White Money Bruce Wayne is a secret prude, but because of his lady's actual comfort.
