If I remember correctly, Busiek and Pacheo had some other Avengers pitch and that one got rejected, so "Avengers Forever" was their second idea. I'm really curious as to how "Avengers: Worlds In Chains" might have turned out.

It didn't get rejected, but in conceptual terms MUTANT X had some clear similarities and was debuting two months earlier, so we decided we should do something else.

The EIC tried to talk us into doing it anyway, saying we could turn the similarity in the two projects into a plus, by having them both be lead-ups to something else, so they're related stories.

I didn't want our project to get turned into a partial prologue to something no one had even conceived of yet; I wanted it to be a thing on its own. So we came up with AVENGERS FOREVER instead.

It sure is. Sadly, a lost art nowadays.

So was I. Still am, if Busiek and Pacheco ever decide to get around to it.

And it's still one of the best stories I've ever read. Among my top 3 Avengers stories. Great Character work, amazing art, and a really cool wild ride. Kudos.

    Peace

This is the kind of thing that's always really bothered me. Even when Hank has turned a corner and is doing something good, other characters that should treat him with friendship and respect hate on him for no reason.

^^^i went through a long period of really disliking Reed’s characterization, and that exchange was an example of why.

It’s like writers feel the need to keep making him pay for hitting Jan, like writing him respectfully somehow reflects badly on something.

I’m prob. way off on that but it’s just how it seems to me at times.

As if Reed has room to talk. Hank is a jerk at times but if someone gets to call him out, it can't be a bigger jerk.

I do get why they want him to pay for Jan, although the comics themselves barely use her and don't always treat her and other heroines in general well so it's a little two faced.

That's from West Coast Avengers, the Acts of Vengeance cross-over. Paul Ryan inks really complimented Byrne's pencils.
