One of the Mole Man's monsters. The whole theme of the Acts of Vengeance Cross-over was pitting the heroes against villains they were not used fighting against. It has already been collected in trade, in case you're intrested.

I also tend to dismiss some (a lot) of Bendis' work... The only time his characterization of Hank was accurate in my opinion was probably when he wrote those last issues of Avengers vol 4 when they went to the Microverse to rescue Jan. The idea of Hank hooking up with a strange girl probably half his age right after Jan leaves him is so out of character and ridiculous that the only way to explain it for me is that the Skrull had some sort of mental power to make people do as they want.

It didn't get rejected, but in conceptual terms MUTANT X had some clear similarities and was debuting two months earlier, so we decided we should do something else.

The EIC tried to talk us into doing it anyway, saying we could turn the similarity in the two projects into a plus, by having them both be lead-ups to something else, so they're related stories.

I didn't want our project to get turned into a partial prologue to something no one had even conceived of yet; I wanted it to be a thing on its own. So we came up with AVENGERS FOREVER instead.

I don’t know if favorite is the right word, but this scene has always stuck w. me.

It’s from Excalibur 14 circa 1988-9. An alternate reality the team visits briefly. I just feel so bad for Hank here.

Me too! But only when drawn and colored well as most depictions have been, such as the one you posted. On this one, I like that they "striped" his chest yellowjacket and the boot tips almost look pointy.

But I have seen other drawings with terrible shading and they drew the yellowjacket backwards.
