.... but also while 8 year old me loved that it was a 'boy's comic' (as I was benefiting from that patriarchal bias!) 47 year old me cringes somewhat at the gender stereotyping of that era and rejoices that my daughter is now growing up in an increasingly recalibrated world with DC Superhero Girls, Squirrel Girl, Ms Marvel...etc etc.... and very much looking forward to the Wonder Woman movie!

I agree. While most of the covers in the series are mostly vague representation of the story inside, there are a few standout issues that also reference a certain theme or story or even an old saying that works within the context of the story. My personal favorites are the ones involving Shakespeare and monkeys.
But one thing was always a constant: every single issue had a beautiful cover.
