There's a difference between Spider-Man experiencing the super natural first hand and visiting a medium after money.
Many writers portray Peter as sceptical of the super natural even when seeing it first hand. More than once he's said he didn't fully believe in vampires even when fighting them with Blade, all throughout the Spider Totem storyline he openly voiced that he didn't buy Ezekiel's story of mystical spider beings do this is pretty in character.
Besides this time he definitely knows that what Betty experienced was not a ghost or spirit but one of Jackal's reanimates so him not instantly buying this makes sense.
Disappearances aside, Peter has been a better friend to Betty than she has to Peter.
That's pretty much the entire story of Peter's life. Sure, he isn't perfect, there's been plenty of times when he could've done better by at least some of his friends than he did, but if we go by proverbial batting average, he's been a better friend to most of his friends than they've been to him.
The spider is always on the hunt.
my question is, If Superior counts towards the Legacy Numbering then this should be Annual #44 not #42 since Superior had 2 Annuals
The Amazing Spider-Man Annual 1-28
The Amazing Spider-Man Annual 1996/29
The Amazing Spider-Man Annual 1997/30
The Amazing Spider-Man Annual 1998/31
The Amazing Spider-Man Annual 1999/32
The Amazing Spider-Man Annual 2000/33
The Amazing Spider-Man Annual 2001/34
The Amazing Spider-Man Annual 1/35
The Amazing Spider-Man Annual 36-39
The Amazing Spider-Man Annual 1/40
The Amazing Spider-Man Annual 1/41
The Amazing Spider-Man Annual 42

For that matter ... after having superpowers and experiencing an endless stream of incredible, fantastical and world-shattering experiences day after day after week after week after year upon year ...
Why would any superpowered entity in the Marvel U be shocked by anything anymore?
Seems to me that at a certain point - if someone told you "Orange unicorns from Venus are hijacking banana boats off the coast of Alaska, in a nefarious scheme to poison the worlds Jello supply" - you would simply say "Ok cool Let's go handle it"
But its not like that. Why?
Noone knows.
I liked the additional short story in this, it's another birthday for Peter...and another surprise party...and Mary Jane turned up for it, getting pretty close to him and calling her "tiger" like old times. The two had met earlier in the story with MJ showing off things Stark was developing to him (liked that Peter remarked that he'd "always hated this place").
