I did the same with X-Men. I was on again/off again during the 90’s. When Morrison came on I stuck around until Second Coming. I left after schism. I didn’t even look at abother X book until House and Powers of X. I’m still debating if I should stick around.
One thing for sure; I agree with you on The Scarlet Spider and Superior endings and refuse to buy anymore satellite books. I don’t even bother with Friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. In fact, I considered it after the claim Aunt May had cancer and even that was swept under the rug within a few months of being mentioned.
I left after Slott ended his run, you don't owe corporations anything.
This is the nature of the beast, enjoy creator owned, old stories that you hold dear, or enjoy Spidey in other media.
Enjoy your entertainment, the minute you don't walk away.

None of this is really unique to Spider-Man. Most long running series have a (likely significant) degree of redundancy. The best way to avoid it is to read limited/unique runs and hope for the best (while accepting the real chance of a "lackluster ending" to a series you might otherwise like more).
Current pull-file: Batman the Detective, Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight, Marvel Dark Ages, Nightwing, Superman Son of Kal-El, Transformers, Transformers: King Grimlock, Warhammer 40,000 Sisters of Battle

That's unfortunate, but I totally understand why you feel that way. I honestly agree with you, but I'm just not prepared to take the step of dropping everything Spider-Man lol. I hope you continue to enjoy everything else you've been reading.
"Anyone can win a fight when the odds are easy! It's when the going's tough - when there seems to be no chance - that's when it counts!" - Spider-Man
Sorry to see you go, but I absolutely see where you're coming from.
I've quit Spidey twice over the years, I left 2 issues into the Byrne 'reboot' and returned for JMS, then left a few issues into BND and returned a little while into Slott's run with the trade for Big Time (I am a sucker for the Hobgoblin) and have been with it ever since.
I haven't read SSM#12 yet (I'm sure I know what's coming but really don't want to see it), as I was really enjoying it but with this and Spider-Geddon I never felt editorial had enough faith in Gage (who is criminally underrated) to really let him run with the ball. We're seeing the same hamstringing that made Ben's book such a mess.
I hope the next writer/artist(s) can do something interesting to win you back.
"Has Sariel summoned you here, Azrael? Have you come to witness the miracle of your brethren arriving on Earth?"
"I WILL MIX THE ASHES OF YOUR BONES WITH SALT AND USE THEM TO ENSURE THE EARTH THE TEMPLARS TILLED NEVER BEARS FRUIT AGAIN!"
"*sigh* I hoped it was for the miracle."
Dan Watters' Azrael was incredible, a constant delight and perhaps too good for this world (but not the Forth). For the love of St. Dumas, DC, give us more!!!

I totally understand the desire to stop collecting. Hell I’ve been there myself a few times through out the years whether it be for medical, personal family, financial or lack of interest reasons. I’ve stopped collecting multiple times . It happens. One thing I’ve learned though is that the person typically comes back in one way shape or form. For whatever reason once comics become ingrained it’s hard to ever completely walk away lol. That being said, good luck ....
