Default Clark as drawn by flashier / more stylized artists

Cards on the table: I'm not the biggest Curt Swan fan.

I appreciate and respect what he did for 30+ years as the most dominant artist the Superverse ever saw or likely will ever see.

But his visualization of Superman, while revolutionary in the 1950s, wasn't exactly eye-catching by the 1980s IMO.

And I have a fascination with these anti-Swan types when they bother to draw Superman, a character who too often screams "all substance no flash".

In particular, the Image founders. Others too, but mostly the 7 of them.

    Erik Larsen
    Jim Lee
    Rob Liefeld
    Todd McFarlane
    Whilce Portacio
    Marc Silvestri
    Jim Valentino

Let's start with the most maligned of the crew: Rob Liefeld of Youngblood.

    Honestly? I don't hate it.

This is from 2018, not 1992. Liefeld clearly got better at proportions. Though I'm not loving the "guyliner" effect here.

I give this one a C+. I might buy a single issue of Liefeld drawing Superman and his world out of curiosity.

    Next up is Jim Lee.

What can said of Jim that hasn't already been said? He's been the Golden Boy for a reason: everything he touches is artistic gold. X-Men, Wildcats, Batman, etc.

His Superman is excellent. I don't care for the weird hair-part that is distinctly Lee's, but I have bought Superman issues strictly for his art.

    Solid A.

Agreed about Swan. His Superman always just kinda looked like an overweight guy to me, honestly. Likewise I respect his longevity and that he fostered an iconic look for the character, I just think visually others have done it much better. If we're talking flashier/stylized looks, to me this takes the cake:

How stylized it would be considered if it wasn't for the costume I don't know, but I consider his work in that realm.

Currently, is hard to think of someone who beats Jorge Jimenez Superman.

I do dig Jorge Jimenez's Superman. That is the lankiest version of Clark that still radiates power (and just as importantly, warmth). Style for miles!

Who is the artist here? I agree this is definitely more stylized.

Part of what I love about Jimenez's Superman is he looks strong without coming across like being some overmuscled titan. Perfect muscularity for the Man of Tomorrow.

    That would be Kenneth Rocafort...

Rocafort is a personal favorite, along with Ed McGuinness...

Man, Jorge Jimenez is IT for me, i love everything about his Superman! Rocafort is second but would like to see his take of current Superman just once to compare to his other versions.

Cool reverse shot of the All-Star cover.

Yeah, not the biggest fan of how others look drawn by him but definitely pitch perfect for modern Superman.

I think this was Ed Benes? It's so expressive and feels like it's moving even if it's not really.
