Captain, in Order to build a better world, sometimes means tearing the old one down... And that makes enemies.
The KYost core should all be between 19-21 — with Anole and Pixie perhaps 18 as they were the canonically youngest — since they're all the same age as Laura, who is 20. In fact, if Nori was established as 17 during A-X she would be 21, since Laura was stated to be 16 in X-Force.
I remember something about the Summers Institute in Age of X-Man,all mutants under the age of 18 were supposed to be enrolled there or at one of the other schools around the world. They got separated into different majors and that determined what kind of job they would get when they graduated at 18.
So if Surge and Hellion were making movies and Mercury was a bouncer at a sex club, presumably they're all over 18

News of NYCC
Bling! joins Fallen Angels! Glad he gets to write a black character, especially one that hasn’t really gotten much attention. Hopefully she gets some cool moments with X-23 and we see Mercury as a result.
Ed Brisson also said that we would see members from Generation X and “Young X-Men” on New Mutants...........I cant slam my head on the table enough times.....
Wait so did Brisson say “New X-Men” or “Gen X & Young X-Men”

Either one makes sense but it’s still odd that Sunspot wants to bring Cannonball to Krakoa but doesn’t bring Icarus. Also, JDW follows it up with asking the crowd if they like Glob which is a sign that Brisson’s statement isn’t really revealing anything.
By "NXM" Brisson means Glob, Armor, Rockslide and Anole

When Brisson says and writes things about the New X-Men, he makes me want to fart. I dead don’t wanna read Glob, Anole, Armor, Rockslide, and Shark-Girl with their one-note, Brissonified personalities for the fourth time.
Ooh, I should’ve worded that better. I love everyone in that crew to death, but I just don’t think they have what made them interesting when they’re written under Brisson. And I don’t think we’ll be getting anything new so I would like to see how he writes a group of maybe Gentle, Hellion, Mercury, Tag, and Wallflower? But I’m also interested in who everyone prefers and doesn’t like as much on the team.
I don't know what you're talking about, Rockslide is awesome. He's a great comic relief character with his blend of enthusiasm and cluelessness, and his interactions with other characters are almost always a highlight of any book he's in (like roasting marshmallows on Match's head and genuinely thinking it's totally cool for friends to do that). The problem is too many writers have been throwing him under the bus to promote Glob. Glob even stole Rockslide's place as Anole's BFF and resident indestructible tank to the point that in Disassembled the writer OUTRIGHT IGNORED that Santo doesn't even breathe to make Glob look cool.
The sad thing is what made them truly interesting was that they were kids who suffered REAL trauma. But Marvel won't ever do anything meaningful with it because it makes the O5+ look bad for letting it happen. That's why when Rockslide, Armor, etc. got angry with Jean during Disassembled they completely ignored the fact that these kids had been through ACTUAL SHIT in favor of generic "Waaaah, we're teenagers and want to be treated like grown-ups" rebelliousness.
Doubly sad: In this age of school shootings and lock down drills, what the NXM experienced post-Decimation is INCREDIBLY relevant to today's youth.
Their endless trauma is what makes me disinterested in them, tbh. In addition to the fact that I always felt it was too soon to add them when the books didn't fully know what to do with either Gen X or the New Mutants at that time back then.
They do have some good characters who are quite popular today and I respect that and like some of them (Rockslide, Anole, Elixir, X-23 in doses). But I just find the entire KYost scene to be one long slog of misery porn and violence and grimdark shit and that spills over to most of the New X-Men for me.
