I don't know if this group have been mentioned on this thread before but they are undisputedly the crowing glory of the UK indie music scene. I'm no Coldplay hater by any means but this group are the band that Coldplay WISH they were.
Elbow are one of the greatest bands to ever come out of Manchester. They follow in the footsteps of other, notable groups from that city down the road (eg. Joy Division, New Order, The Smiths, The Stone Roses, Doves etc) but in my mind eclipse them. Led by the jovial lead singer and lyricist Guy Garvey, Elbow's stock-in-trade is multi-layered, dynamic paeans to modern life in the North West of the UK, often name-checking Manchester itself and it's surrounding environs. They've developed their craft over 7 albums and 25 years now. Elbow's soft, thoughtful and meaningful music has won them numerous awards and cultivated them a vast, passionate audience here in the UK. The very best Elbow songs are off-the-scale beautiful, even better appreciated when you hail from that part of the world.
From the band's 2008, Mercury Music Award winning album 'The Seldom Seen Kid', here's the outstanding 'Mirrorball':
Bauhaus - Double Dare
Favorite Bauhaus song.
