After Thanos and Cable, the actor Josh Brolin can portray Galactus as well imo.

Yes, folks.......it's both good news and bad News as INFINITY COUNTDOWN #4 has spoilers:
GALACTUS return as the World-Eater; as the Silver Surfer ask him to consume the planet where Ultron unleashed him plans to controlled the Universe and although they were successful; Unfornately the status quo between Norrin and Galactus are back to their original basics...!!!
    end of spoilers

The worst part is his role was completely unnecessary. The solution was well within the Surfer's realm of power.

I figured it was just a matter of time.

That's usually the case when a writer or regime wants a desired result. How they reach that result often times is nonsensical.

My question is this: According to Ultimates, the role of Galactus was to be the Lifebringer all along from Day 0. That's a cosmic role that needs to be filled, one would think. If not by Galactus, then who?

Though I think it was done a bit anti-climactically, I agree it was just a matter of time. I was somewhat surprised he didn't return to status quo at the end of Ultimates honestly. Maybe they should have in hindsight.

I agree. This was VERY cool concept, but was short lived to me. I don't think he was Lifebringer for long? Right. Maybe for a Year or so...IDK.

Well, maybe this was to usher in the FF Return i'm guessing.

It was. There's no way he'd survive the rest of his editorial life without going to this.

Yeah. I know it, but it doesn't suck any less for me.

As for your question? I get the feeling the whole "cosmic reorganization" will say that it doesn't matter.

What's most curious for me is why Galactus had to return to his purple to feast. Like, by becoming fully self sustaining did he lose the ability to gain power that way?

That might've worked better since it wouldn't have tried to establish Galactus as being different and instead would've hinted he could have been different.
