Sounds like it might be an allegory for people of that generation feeling old and out of touch? Or he's a gateway character for making fun of modern times? D.A.R.Y.L. was obviously state-of-the-art back then, but from the description it sounds like he might be horribly out of date in 2020. I guess we'll see... it could be a terrible mistake or a stroke of genius.
