I mean if no one wants to risk heading to the theater and if they can't find a new date just bite the bullet and go digital.

Mikey Sutton told scoop to Lord of the Long Box that Disney is concedering New Mutants movie to be released on Disney+ this Summer. Not final decision yet. Disney + really needs new content.
Will see if it is true.

Release this on Hulu or Disney+
Like enough is enough.. let’s just get out finally so we can be done with the FOX era of x-movies.
I have my doubt that's is true given that Disney can't put Fox movies on their streaming service or even Hulu until 2022.

Seems a bit too gritty for Plus. I thought they were only putting "family" content on that? I know Avengers movies are a bit tense, but those were much like the Star Wars films in level of "sci fi action" and not a lot of blood or obvious casualties. This, while no one likely dies... is still pushed to be scary.
Hulu, HBO, or Home Rental IMO.

Disney would have to give New Mutants to HBO for free something they don't want to do.
For the home rental it's rumour that Disney needs to renegotiate contracts with the cast and crew for that to happen and they all must agree to that.
Yeah, this is my understanding too. Fox still has some ongoing streaming and broadcast deals with other networks, namely HBO. They were in place before this deal was even finalized. That's why you're seeing Dark Phoenix on HBO and Deadpool 2 on Cinemax. That'll probably continue for a while. But once those deals expire, I imagine Disney will opt to put every major Fox property, including the old X-Men movies and New Mutants, on a platform like Disney+ or Hulu.

Ugh what a mess. It's amazing just how much goes into things like this. If anything, I think people will have a new found respect for the work that goes into something simple like putting a movie on a streaming service.
Onward has proven that a movie can do better direct to home. Do we know if the same can be said for the other releases like Birds of Prey or Invisible Man?
EDIT - Looks like there might be a loophole in the HBO thing... MCU Insider Mikey Sutton claims that the HBO clause only related to Theatrical features, and if NM doesn't actually get a theatrical release it doesn't fall under that agreement and allows them to put on D+. Of course who knows how reliable that is and could be just some gossip site playing devil's advocate.

It's possible that the deal between HBO and Fox only applies to theatrical releases. The logic would be why would HBO want a movie Fox decided not to release theatrically? When deals like that were set-up, nothing like this could have have been considered likely. Locking themselves into a bomb which was unreleasable wouldn't have been something HBO would have wanted to do.
I think it's more likely that it's the producers who have to have a new financial deal worked out, not the cast. M
Maisie was the biggest name, and in an interview with Sophie during the GoT Season 8 press tour Maisie alluded to being signed for 3 X-Men films and still hoped to do X-Men movies together. Direct to video wouldn't have been exactly the consideration. At the time Maisie signed on, she was in far more demand (she was in talks for some movies but nothing panned out mainly because she had to drop out of some movies due to her GoT schedule. She dropped out of high school at 15 so she would have the time to do movies when GoT wasn't filming too so maybe a waste in retrospect). Nor do I think she would be holding out to get it into theaters. She probably wants to move on.
