It’s cloning with extra steps.
No it's not cloning.
The Krakoans are EEEvil!
THEY MUST BE STOPPED!
The existence of something that was able to corrupt souls by eating lost memories is pretty strong evidence that the process is more than just cloning, even if that is part of said process.
Dark does not mean deep.
Before Trial of Magneto, they literally just grew a copy of someone's body in an egg and implanted the memories into it. It's cloning.
If Hickman didn't have to deal with Marvel's metaphysics with souls I'm pretty sure they never would have come up to begin with.
Also didn't X-force have multiple Domino's and Quentin's running around at the same time as well?
Saying that its just cloning means that the original X-Men are dead and that what's now running around are merely copies of them. After all ; Ben Reilly is not quite Peter Parker, is he ?
(from the trailer of 1/26/2022)
"...Does that sound too dangerous ? Don't worry about it. Come to the harbour magna where we can clone you and download all your memories into a clone. So it'l be like you've never shed this mortal coil at all ..."
Sounds like this means that its not you returning but rather that something comes into being that is like you.

Theseus' ship has long since set sail with our current bunch of X-men.
Seriously, we are talking about a franchise where they retconned in the O5 having been brought to the modern day and sent back with their memories intact, at one point sentient hate bacteria were responsible for the bigotry of humans, Professor's Xavier evil fetal twin that he destroyed became a woman and genocided an island nation, and Xorn-Magneto-Xorn ramapaged across New York shoving people into ovens. The X-men being clones of the original is one of the things you'd have to suspend your disbelief for the least.
It's cloning y'all Marvel confirmed it all ya faves who died pre Wanda's safe space are dead & gone clones are what remain.
Yes, a completly new body grown from the stored DNA and recorded memory engrams of the original body - - which is the definition of cloning.
*** Currently there has been no experimentation with placing a mutant mind in a husk that is not their own. Additionally, there has not been any open experimentations with combining the DNA of multiple mutants.

Seems pretty clear that yeah, it's just clones. Not even clones with like the souls in them, just photocopies.
It's cloning but it's not JUST cloning.
I'm surprised this is even a question. The books state that a clone body is grown in the hatchery and the soul is placed into a empty "husk".
