    Default Question, Comic-Cons.

I’m part of a team working on an independent comic book series project, we hope to launch early in 2019. Our main promotional campaign will be centered around conventions but we don’t want to spend our efforts on the ones dedicated to pop culture, we want to concentrate on those devoted to comic books, which we know will tend to be smaller and grassroots. Where can I find a comprehensive list or database that will allow me to identify such conventions and therefore plan an effective campaign? All help is much appreciated.

    Thanks,

I don't know such list. But I see that you like Tintin. If you plan on translating your comics to french, there is the biggest european comics festival in France. It's a serious festival. It is FESTIVAL INTERNATIONAL DE LA BANDE DESSINÉE at Angoulème: http://www.bdangouleme.com/

Looking at the list on Wikipedia, I would be careful to use it as-is. First, it's of "noteworthy" ones, second is that the term "Comic con" nowadays says little how much it has to do with comics culture or not, due to the rise of SDCC. The comiccon label to me today more seems to imply a commercially-run audience-focused con on popular media culture.

At least DragonCon is primarily a science fiction con. Sure, you'll find plenty of comics fans and creators there, but it's not the focus of the con. It's more a result of the overlapping fan bases and that DragonCon has a huge cosplaying scene.
