It's a shame because it seems that generally Tini and people on this forum are on the same page. The characters we don't want her to write it seems she doesn't either. That being said it's still unproffesional of her not to make more of the characters she is stuck with.

Mutant magic is just what every other book is doing with using mutants in tandem with each other. She’s making it seem like she’s dropping these amazing seeds but she isn’t. Like you can’t even tell us if Brian’s powers are the same. We don’t really know what Betsy’s powers are in the role of CB and how they affect her mutant abilities. It’s just another Tini/fanboy wank interview.

She’s most proud of contributing “basic cable”. Even that’s a miss because it would have been almost funny if Stryfe was going against Kid Cable.

First arc should have been about mutant magic and showcasing it. It was about human witches sowing distrust for a mutant CB.

This book is so frustrating. I actually really like what Howard has been doing with the Braddocks, Otherworld, and Saturnyne. But Rogue and Gambit are non-entities, props she uses to push Betsy's story forward. Jubilee, it seems, was only included so Howard could use Shogo. And I deeply dislike everything she has done with Rictor, calling him a loner just shows how much she doesn't really understand the character, and how she is trying to shove him into a role that doesn't quite fit.

Mutant magic *eye roll* no one cares about it and she still hasn’t even properly explained or elaborated upon it.

Wasn't mutant magic the whole "X is better than circle for magic" idea, which is something only mutants would be able to discover and use, because the X-men are mutants and they use the X as their symbol?
Which clearly only a high IQ being like Apocalypse would ever discover, since it's not like the X is just another basic geometric shape that any magic user with half a brain cell would have tested for magic qualities eons ago across the universe.

Or is it the concept of using super powers to bypass limitations of magic or boost their effect? Which has been around long before the current status quo and is not something which could be presented as something unique to mutants (any fitting super power would have that effect).

Damn this entire thread is just people dragging Tini amd rightfully so. I think she has really great ideas but she utterly sucks when it comes to execution. It sucks that this book is probably gonna get cancelled soon because it's such an interesting concept ruined by a terrible writer.

Makes me wonder what she will do in the future in regards to the X line.

Omg I felt the same. I exactly like the book.

And she’s stated that Hickman liked her previous books like Euthanauts.

But yeah. We’re stuck with her for awhile. We don’t even know how sales are going for this series.

But not bad if she has all these story ideas she wants to seed.

Because she and Hickman attack the problem in a similar way. They get interested in the more academic part of the story. How the concepts work and interact. How to write a story about a tribe. A people. A society.

She got the job because she sent Hickman an essay about mutant magic. That was her pitch. Betsy was added later on the suggestion of an editor. It's rumoured to have started as an vehicle for Apocalypse. Well either rumoured or confirmed. I can't remember.

What is wierd is that she should be working with a cast where there relationship to mutant magic is part of their character arc. Instead we get characters who stand around doing nothing and we get no particular insight into what they feel or why they are there anyway.

That is peculiar I feel like she should have been writing New Mutants instead of Excalibur, because then she could have dug in deep on Moonstar's Valkyrie magic and Majik's magic as well.

Nevertheless, I am looking forward to what her and Hickman have; for me I am an unabashed Hickman fanboy and if he gives a writer a thumbs up I will always give them the benefit of the doubt.

Basically should be writing academic papers about x-men and not telling stories on comic books

I think I would like Excalibur more if everyone not named Braddock was dropped from the book, and it was no longer billed as a *team* book. I like the Braddock/Otherworld stuff, but I also can't help but be distracted about how poorly she writes the other characters, likely as a result of how clearly little she cares about them.

This is the most consensus Ive seen here for a while on this board.

I still don't understand why so many readers were excited for Tini, my loss, and now I feel bad for her fans, because I don't see many people getting excited for her work after this.

This is an extremely slow burn... with seeds planted that people have forgotten or no longer care about... with an exciting cast doing nothing... odd useless focus on Shogo (whom Ive found a waste a time prior and moreso now)... weird handling of Rictor...

All I can remember about this book is Apocalypse playing around with magic spells.
