Complete list of expired Marvel licenses? (ex. ROM, Conan, etc.)

Hey, I am currently collecting old back issues and TPBs from other publishers of comic licenses that Marvel no longer has the rights to.

I wanted to make sure if I'm missing any or not:

Conan the Barbarian
Doc Savage
Godzilla
Micronauts
NFL Superpro

Red Sonja
ROM the Space Knight

possibly James Bond, Marvel did some movie adaptations.

Transformers, GI Joe (both now with IDW).
Power Rangers (now with Boom! Studios).

There's quite a lot more. When I was little, I read a Marvel UK mag... called Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends. Yeah, that's right, they used to have the comic rights to the Railway Series!

It was a nursery title, captions under pictures, no speech bubbles (the format kinda fit perfectly, actually, as the TV show it was released to tie-in to was narrated rather than having a full voice cast).

Incidentally, it's still running to this day, though no longer published by Marvel.

^They did not have MMPR just for movie adaptations. They ran two books set in season 3, one of which was a flip book with VR Troopers. He-Man also had a series and not just a movie one-shot.

Also, Dennis needs to be disambiguated. Blonde American, not the British Beano star.

As for the Muppets, you're right, but it's not automatic just because Disney own it. If it was they'd have the rights to Mickey Mouse, which is with IDW.

For a while they had permission to use Fu Manchu as Shang Chi's father in the old Master of Kung Fu series in the 1980s. But I guess the Sax Rohmer estate didn't renew that. The last time he appeared he was just called He Who Shall Not Be Named. The series used some of the other Rohmer characters in supporting roles like Dr Petri, Dr Denis Nayland-Smith

As others have said, MotU was not just for the movie adaptions, He-Man and C/O had a whole series of their own - one which I used to own every issue of. (dog-gone lost 'em!)


You know, US 1 is one which I never had a clue was a licensed property! Until you listed it here - I always thought it was an original concept, since we didn't have those electric truck-toys here in Sweden.

Fascinatingly enough, I'm starting to think that the license only covers the actual NAME of the comic, and the design of the truck - everything else seems to be owned by Marvel, as evidenced by Ulysses Solomon Archer and C/O continuously making comedic guest-appearances even to this very day!

Yes, only the name and the truck are licensed, hence why all the characters have continued to appear.

I am trying to think of which books had real ties to the main Marvel U either appearing in other books or having characters show up in theirs and being part of the Marvel U as a whole. Micronauts, Shogun Warriors, ROM, Team America, US 1, and Godzilla are the only ones I can think of.
