Reminded of the talk about Trump and his access to the nuclear codes and other issues like that. difference between Trump and Putin, Trump's 2nd tier people are sane enough not to let him cross that big red line and start a war.

Putin, however, has filled his government with so many loyal flunkies that he can pretty much do whatever he wants to. There is no one in Russia to stop him.

I think the even more simple explanation is that he thinks he can get away with it, at least as long as he's alive.

Think about it. He's been preparing for years now, so while sanctions will probably affect the people of Russia, Putin and his cronies are pretty well insulated. And he figures no other major country will attempt to get involved in a traditional military struggle, because he has nukes. I can't remember the exact quote, but Einstein said something like "I don't know how World War 3 will go, but World War 4 will be fought with sticks and stones."

And hell, he's already sown so much division in the US, he probably figures the next President will be another pro-Russia stooge like Cheeto Bennito was.

So he does what he likes tries to put the USSR back together while the rest of the world (except China) hems and haws, and when he finally kicks, it will be the next person's problem.

I know it is only a day into Russia's invasion of the Ukraine but has anyone else seen low level panic buying because of the threats of a Cyber attack on out power and water grids?

I saw a decent amount of people stocking up heavy on canned goods and bottled water today. Like more then normal and there were a couple people who said it was because if the water and power went out because of an attack.

Reports are coming in that Ukraine took back an airport that Russian special forces had taken earlier.

And more reports say that Russian infantry, armored vehicles, etc are building up near Poland's border.

Whether he gets his "cake" or not, I wonder if Putin felt confident he'd somehow successfully tailor or at least be able to later salvage the optics of this, cause right now it doesn't look in his favor (at least not from my corner of the woods).
