Default What if the X-men were in the DCU?

Mutants become a natural part of Earth ecology in the various comic book DCU's (Post-Crisis, New 52 etc) - what happens next? Everyone is there from the X-men stable, all the X-teams and their enemies.

With the JLA active, there would be no real chance of Sentinel robots or concentration camps for mutants. That would also mean less 'evil' mutants and the apprehension of more actual mutant criminals.

Once Magneto understood that DC Earth really is different, he could join the JLA. His powers and abilities would fit in nicely, both in terms of magnetism and his technological skills.

Apocalypse is toast. He becomes a regular part of Superman's rogue's gallery and is continually knocked on his ass.

Batman is tasked to apprehend Mystique. Finally, there's someone who can actually keep up with her and bring her down.

Mister Sinister is ecstatic. An entire new world of diverse genetic structures and all their powers. He quickly decodes the Kryptonian genetic code and becomes one of the most dangerous villains the JLA has to face. Lex and Essex have a useful but uneasy backroom alliance. I can see Sinister offering support and assistance to Lex's Injustice League, making them even more dangerous than before.

The mutant heroes are astounded to discover people treat them like heroes.

The mutant villains are astounded to discover people hate and fear them for what they do, not who they are.

A lot of the angst disappears.

Just another day in Gotham or Metropolis. More folks in funny suits. Just wait for a Crisis or two. Unless you bust out some cosmic level Phoenix stuff or a major Magneto event - their abilities are pretty mundane and not impressive. Given the speed blitz abilities of many, Magneto would be wise to keep it together. No reason to end up tossed into the sun by someone you don't see coming.

They have a large quantity of powerful telepaths, and their big guns have telepathy + TK (Omega class) with a few of reality warpers. Xavier, with Cerebro, is a game changer by himself. He can find anybody and make them his puppets on a global scale. Jean is Omega class without the Phoenix boost.

Most of the JLA villains are truly toast if X-Men and JLA join forces.

With Cypher, Synch and Warlock around you wouldn't need Cyborg or Batman. Cypher can probably hack whatever tech Lex is using in a few minutes.

I doubt there's many, if any situation where Cerebro would come into place in character. The majority of the x-men psychic rogue gallery can be handle by Martial Man Hunter or Wonderwoman. Or the X-men themselves without resorting to Cerebro. *New 52 WW is immune to psychic assaults. The only exception would be someone like Cassandra Nova, no?

I kind of get the sense they'd just be another costumed team among a sea of heroes. Maybe Cadmus decides to focus on them for some reason...

Wolverine probably gets locked up at some point too. I do wonder which city the xmen would choose to operate out off.

Mad Jim Jaspers is blamed for all the reboots to DC continuity.

I could see Ra’s Al Ghul recruiting Mr X, Scalphunter, Riptide, Sabretooth and Lady Deathstrike.

Nimrod merges with Amazo and the world is very, very unhappy about it.

Ozymandias meets Ozymandias, and there is much rejoicing. Blockbuster meets Blockbuster - nobody cares.

Franklin Richards laughs in Superboy Prime’s face.

Roma gets on well with Shazam. Ditto The Adversary and Eclipso.

Joker works with Arcade. Then kills him.

OMAC and the Sentinels become one programme.

Gladiator becomes variously known as Superman Punk or Superman Purple.

Raven and Magik get on far, far too well for the liking of anyone in the Titans. Bad influence.

Much as I hate to admit it, Storm utterly pwns Weather Wizard. Likewise Magneto and Dr Polaris.

Booster Gold meets Cable, Bishop, Nate Grey and Rachel Grey and realises he reeeally lucked out on the future timeline he came from.

Northstar feels slow. Quicksilver feels like he’s walking through molasses. Then they both discover the Speed Force.

The Shi’ar take over both Rann AND Thanagar, so the bickering ends. The Brood do not fair well when the GLC find out about them.

Oh, and Belasco, S’ym and N’astirh mock Trigon. A lot.

Wait what ? Booster comes from a fairly stable, nice future where he schemed to use his future tech to be a hero to escape his humdrum life. All these people came from HORRIFIC dystopian futures

That's what Beads was saying: he meets them and says "Thank god, dog and every other version of those names for the future I came from. The horrrroorrrrrrrrr those poor bastards came from. It's a miracle they haven't each (well, the three that could) destroyed life on earth out of picque."

This would be the initial reception of the mutants in the DCU, but could change within a generation when the long-term implications of mutants breeding with mutants becomes more clear. Many humans are going to react with bigotry when they comprehend that a new minority group threatens to displace human supremacy on Earth.

This being DC, I suspect they go with 'Our kids (eventually) all get superpowers! Yay!'

The problem there is people like Magneto.

He's going to start going on about genetic superiority and ranting about mutant prejudice anytime ANYTHING bad happens to a mutant.

I do wonder which city the xmen would choose to operate out off.
It's DC. They'll operate out of some previously unheard of big city that we assure you has been there the whole time.
