When lo and behold, Donny Cates said, “wait” why not Gambit and Rogue?

This was apparently at one of the Marvel summits. Where CB then runs it by Guggs and things follow the way they did.

Did it make for a better story? Maybe?

It’s just strange for them to run things like this? I guess that’s the purpose of these summits. Where an outside writer can throw an idea in, and they run with it.

That's really a shame. It sounds like they had a good plan in place for Kitty and Piotr. It also explains why Kitty changing her mind so quickly at the altar felt so forced and contrived. I still don't buy her excuse for calling things off at the last minute. I think it has done damage to her character that will take a long time to undo.

As much as I like Rogue and Gambit, I think their relationship would be as strong if they hadn't gotten married in X-men Gold #30. They would basically be next in line for a big wedding event. They could still be Mr. and Mrs. X and they could still grow together, even without a wedding. I'm still glad they tied the knot, but I think the damage done to Kitty and Colossus wasn't worth it.

I honestly have split feelings on one hand I've never been much of a fan of Kitt and Colossus together but on the other hand the way the writers made it happen left me with a bad taste in my mouth about Kitty who left this story in a negative way. Something similar to what happened to Bobby when Bendis thought that Teen Jean reveals his secret that way was right.

These things have consequences for readers even if marvel tries to ignore.

I'm neutral on Kitty and Colossus, but they really didn't need more drama. Why tease something that isn't going to happen? I love Rogue and Gambit but marrying them on a whim seems problematic
It makes me afraid how easy and capricious this kind of character defining developments are taken. Marvel truly doesn't give a **** about anything more than cheap drama.
