Have been informed that the Black Swans are "only seeking female members, but thank you very much for your time"
Stan Lee once remarked he only came up with "Marvel Girl" because he couldn't think of anything better at the time. Jean's been portrayed as an adult since her resurrection in the 80s so she's long since outgrown it. And, admittedly, it doesn't tell you anything, even metaphorically, about her powers, her personality, or her identity so it comes across as kind of generic.
Phoenix, meanwhile, sounds cool, thematically fits with her history as a character, and--my favorite part--draws from Greek mythology, giving it a thematic and phonetic symmetry with Cyclops. "Cyclops and Phoenix"--it just sounds right. But, it carries a lot of continuity baggage and can lead to confusion for newer readers who aren't up to speed on all the retcons surrounding the Dark Phoenix Saga.
On the other hand, Jean's an iconic character within the X-Men mythos, and both of her historical codenames have canonical pedigree. Coming up with a new one that fits and isn't generic or trite is difficult.
Well, at this point i imagine all the most iconic X-men identities should be public knoledge. So it's not like it really matters anymore. iwas just curious.
Beast looks like he’s trying to take a dump
Jean is like “try me. I dare you”
