Agents of SHIELD (SPOILERS)

Has there been a season of Agents that hasn't been deemed "it's last season"? Not on these boards, I'm sure.

Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD is currently in a tough position. It holds a late Friday night time slot and its average 2.3 million viewers the smallest audience of any ABC drama. It's average 0.6 rating in the key demographic is the network’s second lowest next to Once Upon a Time, which is in its final season.

However, Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD sees a 117 percent demographic bump when Live+7 DVR numbers are taken into account, which is the fourth-largest increase in all of network television. It's unclear how much ABC values the delayed viewing numbers, but ABC head Channing Dungey said at the TCA press tour that she is “cautiously optimistic” about SHIELD’s chances at a sixth season.

The showrunners just said that they're writing this season's finale as a series finale, with the option to continue if it gets renewed. That tells me they don't expect it to get renewed.

Yes, it gets a big DVR bump over its live numbers, but its live numbers are so low now that it's still not much.

TV By the Numbers still has it listed as "likely renewal," but I'm not sure why.

TV Grim Reaper says it's "likely cancelled". Also Spoiler TV has it in the yellow "In Danger" in their cancellation predictor table.

I would be mildly surprised if it gets renewed. I could have seen it getting a "13 more episodes and done" type renewal, but since the showrunners say they're prepared to end it this season, that's less likely.

I do hope they're considering the Ghost Rider and Secret Warriors spinoff options for the streaming service, though. That might even get me to subscribe.

Not sure I like General Hale and her daughter in the role of the main villains.

Still, the idea of them forming their own Legion of Doom seems interesting.

I noticed a couple of "Comics" news sites are putting it more in "Thunderbolts" terms.
