5 Reasons Superman Is Perfect For Wonder Woman

    One And The Same:
What adds lots of credence to the relationship between Superman and Wonder Woman is the way the two genuinely understand each other. They've both spoken out about the struggles they face, from supervillains to how the public views them. They also both originate from a different world and feel alone in ours. Not to mention there aren't many heroes who can equal their strength and power levels.

Characters like Diana and Clark face a lot of responsibility. Only they can experience and truly understand this amount of pressure from the world. They help each other lift a heavy burden off their chests just by conversing. This kind of chemistry on this power scale is rare to come by in superhero comics, which is why it's so refreshing.

    The Dynamic Duo:
In a world as grand and overflowing with different characters as the DC Universe, it's easy to get lost within the world-ending disasters or high-stakes battles. Yet here come Wonder Woman and Superman, who can face any enemy or threat together.

In the Geoff Johns' Justice League, they went undercover together and went as far as to try to resolve some international matters, after disasters in Kahndaq. Batman considered the two side-by-side to be an unstoppable force, and there's no denying it. Perhaps the world needs a power pair that can assure the safety of everyone on the planet, not just America.

They Can Stand Next To Each Other:
He can go anywhere Diana can. Whether it be to the core of the Earth, the depths of the seas, or outer space, no environment is harsh enough to keep them apart. Not only that, in the worst-case scenario, they're capable of facing off toe-to-toe.

Wonder Woman, however, can stop him and delay any misfortunes when he's not himself. There are more examples. During the Trinity War, Superman was secretly under the influence of kryptonite. Diana did everything she could to get to the bottom of the truth and went to find the likes of Justice League Dark for help. They were there for each other at their worst, when no one else could be.

    Shares Himself:
Diana knew the real Clark Kent as he was from day one. Superman never played pretend with her about his true identity. Instead, he opened up, showed his way of life, and told her all his secrets. It was quite beautiful when the two went out on a date in civilian clothing so she could get a taste of how he lives on a day-to-day basis.

    Final Days:
The story arc entitled The Final Days of Superman marked the death of the New 52's Clark Kent. The last issue ended on quite the somber note and made even the biggest New 52 Superman detractors finally warm up to this version of the character.
In his final moments, Clark said his goodbyes to the people that mattered to him the most in life. Diana was his last visitor. She said, "Let go, darling. It's alright, your parents are waiting for you," which marked an end to their relationship, but also solidified it. Wonder Woman knew Clark for who he was. He told her about his parents, he showed her so much of the world from his perspective, and she decided to honor it. Quite a way to bring it all home.

Please somebody hand the author of this article an award.
It really is that simple. You cannot claim to know or like these characters individually and say anything different to this. The amazing thing of all that was said in this excerpt is that it is true not just of the New 52 SM/WW, but was also true of the Post Crisis version. It has been true of the two since their connection started being recognized.

They get each other, retconning such truth to say otherwise is disingenuous and a disservice to both characters at their core. It is part of what makes their connection so compelling.

Superman and Wonder Woman got each other on an intrinsic level. It only makes sense that they would. That is real to life. We tend to connect more with people who have had similar experiences or share similar interests. There's no untruth there. It is why I became such a sap for the post crisis era version of them. Not only was it developed organically, but you could not deny that they got each other, were each other's confidant, was usually at the other's side in battle. It didn't take them long either to begin confiding in one another, because they recognized they could trust the other. In each other was a kindred spirit.

The beauty of their relationship for me has always been the tenderness that exists between the two, and also how fierce they can get. They are open and vulnerable with each other, while also holding the other accountable. They had friendship as their foundation. They leaned on the other, counted on the other, and above all it was reciprocal. I wish there were more people on the inside who have the insight to see what makes Superman and Wonder Woman so special. But when they can barely see why the individual characters are relevant and worthy of storytelling and investment, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that they fail to see the appeal of both together. Their relationship is a layered one, that goes beyond plot device and overinflated position of importance. It requires effort and substance. Digging in from a philosophical level that challenges, while also having the necessary action scenes found in comics, in addition to having the lighter, tender, playful moments that the two have been known to have. It is a balancing act that not many can effortlessly and effectively deliver.

New52 even with flaws, didn’t need to be debooted/cut as it was especially for the bold part. Nothing was wrong with sales. That has been stated multiple times but seems to go over heads and purposely ignored. What was needed, was communication, respect and time everything else seems to be given to develop and show its worth....
And with the current DCAU continuity ending this May, they could've even keep SM/WW together till its end for the sake of coherence with what had a proper build up, instead of switching after 2/3 of movies.

Now I find it very funny to have gentle references to the period, including SMWW. Such failures were never justification for new 52 to suffer as it did ...
Byrne left the SM books for all the hate he got for his reboot (even since his MoS was only announced) but after years his SM is treated as the true and original one. lol. With the New52, if DC would've stick with its decisions like they did back in the 80s/90s, readers would've adjusted over time. SM/WW already outsold all similar books to guarantee to grew more its fanbase if it was kept going.

Rebirth always had more holes than a Swiss cheese and DC tried to convince us that it was a masterpiece ... it was not for nothing that it was swept under the rug as if the company was ashamed of what it did!
Rebirth will end up viewed as a transitional phase as soon as the new timeline will be officially established. A lot of Rebirth runs will get dumped out continuity as the New52 ones before. It's a cycle.

Is this a companion article to the one you posted some time ago: 5 Reasons Wonder Woman Is Perfect For Superman? 😂

Btw, is it me or CBR is coming up with new articles related to SM/WW every week? I'd like to see one exploring their comic history. A lot to dig there. It could be informative for many.

A shame the DC Office stubbornly refuses to do anything much with the concept of SMWW, even in an Elseworlds setting. As the content of these posts show (cosplay photographs, merchandise, and social media), SMWW is a rare universal concept that cuts across all divisions.

The SM/WW concept would really be a dream come true for every company due to its marketing versatility. Don't get what should happen to have WB/DC finally realizing it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

IMO, DC Comics desperately needs people with a fresh viewpoint who aren't industry insiders obsessed with recreating their childhoods reading comics by the greats. It isn't the 1980s or 1970s anymore. The damsel in distress rescued by her hero love interest paradigm is outdated and culturally irrelevant. The power couple dynamic who share in each other's challenges and rewards is where it is at.

Edit - DC and Marvel are attempting to address this issue by giving Lois Lane & Mary Jane their own books. But unless they give the women powers making them fulltime superheroes their idea won't work. You can only go so far in comic books with non-superhero side characters before the novelty wears off and the concept becomes stale.
