Depends.
Traditional three-camera sitcoms work better with a live audience. But the single-camera shows work better with no track. It would be bizarre if something like Modern Family or Arrested Development had a laugh track.
Tbh, the only show I heard was recorded in front of a live studio audience was Cheers. I don't even know if shows have either. How do you even know what's a laugh track and what's not unless they say it?
It depends really on the show too, Three's Company for example is my go to sitcom for getting a good laugh that I can genuinely believe the laughs were real from the audience I mean when you've got a comic talent like John Ritter how can the audience contain themselves?
But then you've got garbage like The Big Bang Theory where there is constant laughter after every word spoken it seems. Saturday Night Live is also guilty from an audience that is either stoned from it being late night or they've been bribed with more free tickets for every laughter.
Fresh Prince was live.
