If you're still referring to Claremont and Priest, note that Christopher Priest is African-American.

You are denying their history if you're making the excuse that you don't like them together because their union came about simply because they're Marvel's two most prominent African heroes. Your logic and distaste for their union doesn't hold up to scrutiny when your argument omits Claremont and Priest from the "wanting them together because they're black" camp. That's what I'm trying to get you to understand.

It's crazy. And it's highly alarming. A black person is allowed to be the "exotic" love interest of the paragon of understanding, compassion and acceptance that is the white hero. But God forbid two blacks are seen in a loving and committed relationship. Especially considering that Coates is going through the process of righting all the wrongs in Hudlin's approach to their courtship. Ignorance is bliss, after all.

the problems with Tchalla are the following

-He is the king of an African Nation. Storm lives in New York. When Scott married Maddie and moved to Alaska he stopped appearing for a while in X-Men books.
It's a relationship that removes her from X-Men books, unless they have a weird long distance relationship, or Tchalla hires full time a teleporter like the Vanisher so Storm can move all over the planet all the wants. It also gives Storm non X-Men obligations as first lady and queen.
It would be like a relationship between an X-Men and someone from the Russian Winter Guard, like if Darkstar was dating some X-Man, it would be a long distance relationship, or the xman ends up moving to Russia, or she ends up moving to the mansion. But Tchalla would never leave Wakanda full time.

-He is more important and powerful than her, and the relationship risks turning her into his arm candy, like what happened to Emma, especially from Fraction on. If Emma married someone like Doctor Doom, she would be nothing but his arm candy for the rest of her published history. Someone like Forge can't do that to Storm.
It's comics, you don't need to put that much thought into it. Logan appeared in multiple books. Peter Parker does the same. The Big Three have solos, plus appear in the Avengers. T'Challa has been a king, and an Avenger.

Books featuring the same characters in the same month does not have stories occurring simultaneously, unless they are part of a crossover.

Storm & BP had a pretty fun dynamic when they were part of the FF. Storm was more than willing to bring BP down to Earth whenever she felt he was doing too much.

If you don't like the pairing, then I believe that's good enough without seeking to show how such a union would be logistically unsound, or show Storm being devalued.

Honestly, I don't even think their worlds fit together. T'Challa can never truly support the mutant cause, and the mutant cause forever makes Ororo a liability for Wakanda.

Also, to be together, one has to ride backseat, and that just ruins it for that character.

Storm and BP were married in the maxi-series Earth X and ruled all of Africa. This was published in 1999 long before Hudlin married them and was written by Jim Krueger.

Two white writers did start the Storm/BP thing...Claremont and Byrne back in 1980. So technically the poster is right.

They were also only married for one story instead of an on-going reality that is 616.

People tend to accept alt-reality canon for their own purposes around here. I just pointed out that it was not something that was pulled out of the air by Hudlin.

It wasn't pulled out of the air. People are just willfully being ignorant. There is no way you can conclude it was pulled from thin air even if you over look the good point you made when you consider priest and Claremont.

LoganAlpha: I don't care about the races of any couple, people's problem wasn't that they were both black, the problem was that when Hudlin got them together he admitted that he only looked at black Marvel ladies as possible wives for BP, it'd be the same as if they were going to marry Cyclops again and said that he could only marry a white woman, now couple that with the marriage ended up taking Storm away from the X-world and in the end she was reduced often to just being BP's wife, which to many Storm has always deserved to be much better than being just anybody's wife...

The Queen of Wakanda obviously has to be black lol...

I think Claremont is right about why they didn’t work together.

And as the comics have shown, Storm can’t be an X-Man and the queen of Wakanda. Ultimately she chose being an X-Man first, and that costed her the marriage.

Which is fine by me. I rather her be starring in X-Men books rather than a supporting character in BP’s books.

Storm has continuously been poorly written in the xbooks while the character has been written 1000x in the bp comics. Why would you prefer a character to be poorly written in one book simply because you don't want to see her as a supporting character in another book? She is a supporting character in Gold but the difference is that she sucks in Gold.
