Well, if you needed a powerful Justice League enemy that has information about a grave threat that can only be defeated with his/her knowledge, that also gives story conflict in that they couldn't be sure that the person could be trusted while being fully aware that that person wouldn't openly agree to help without some sort of benefit to them, and will probably attempt to manipulate them for his/her own needs...
Who would be a better choice?

Cyborg gets to be on two JL books
John stewart is the main GL again
Jessica is the #2 lantern
Darkseid is on the JL
DC is finally turning the corner
Well, Despero would work, too.
But I think Darkseid has a bit more potential at the moment. He's a pretty well known League villain, the Mister Miracle series has had a lot of good buzz, the 'Odyssey' name harkens back to 'Cosmic Odyssey' (an underrated comic, imho).
This could be the start of DC bringing the New Gods back to a more prominent role.
And I wouldn't be surprised if an ongoing Mister Miracle series was launched as a tie-in to JLOdyssey.
