X-men Pantheon: Mutant as gods

I saw this thing on comicvine, where Morrisons Justice League was correlated to the Greek Pantheon, and thought it'd be fun for us to try something like that.

Below is a List of the Greek gods and their defining traits. Pick an Xman who represents that God appropriately. Think of this the Wicked+the Divine, a male God can be represented by a female mutant and a female god can be represented by a male mutant.

We already have omega level mutants. I never liked the premise of mutants as gods. it only worked for DC characters. That been said, I don't mind slotting some X-Men characters to some of the greek gods.

Everyone is agreeing on Dionysius: hedonistic trickster god of wine as Gambit

Forge as Hephaestus (crippled god of craftsmanship and artifice) is the one that seems most intuitive to me.

Others kind of seem forced, at best.

Hermes is a god of speed, but also trickery, so doesn't really fit Northstar, IMO.

Hera, who knows, perhaps Emma Frost? (A queen who is basically the goddess of being jealous and cheated on? Yikes. Not so progressive, those Olympians...)

Zeus, king of the gods and thunderer? Totally Storm, in that respect, since she's a regal hurler of thunderbolts, but in his aspect as shapechanging horndog and father of dozens of demigods because of his amazing gift for sexual assault and infidelity? Not so good a fit...

Apollo, god of the sun, but also archery, prophecy and healing. So, not really Sunfire or Firestar, who fit only one of his themes.

Sage seems better suited to the goddess of strategy role of Athena, if not the goddess of crafts, cities and wisdom aspects.

That said, the Justice League-as-pantheon concept seemed kind of forced to me anyway, so stretching the metaphor even further just kind of shows off the flaws in the idea. It got even more silly when applied to the Authority, who seemed like walking catch-phrases half the time.

Yeah, not a question for the extremely literal folks. It's a creative exercise where you need to think less about actual powers and more about roles. Who is the king of the mutants? Who's the queen? Who's wise? Who's beauty? Whos a warrior? Who's a builder?

Like I'd agree with Cyclops as Athena, because she's smart and strategic.

Hera is extremely jealous and tends to kill zeus lovers or make them suffer horrible fates.

Also for Cyclops he's very fitting as Athena, because apart from being the goddess of wisdom (that's a completely different concept of probability) since it's is the ability to act using knowledge, experience, understanding and insight, it's more focused on decisions rather than processing ability quickly. Also Athena was regarded as a warrior goddess that lead men into battle and the goddess of civilised and strategic war (while ares is the god of barbaric war). Now there's the difference that Athena is always regarded as virgin while Cyclops has 4 children ( not as much as zeus tough) and his children where conceived with consenting women
