Here's the John Stewart figure I picked up.

I love how Alex Ross drew John

I would love nothing more than to whole-heartedly recommend The Darkstars to everyone on this thread who hasn't read it. But...
This series was an ensemble, and though John did get some great development and a fair amount of screen time, he was not always the star. I fear that enthusiastically recommending the book (which can be easily found in bargain bins everywhere) would only come back and bite me in the a$$.
For those who don't mind that Donna Troy was central to more covers than John, go for it! The book was sorely underrated and should have lasted longer than it did (32 issues).
Very interesting, cool idea that could still happen..

I'm a few issues into Van Jensen & Bernard Chang's GLCorps run. It's been great so far...until the $#!++y Lights Out crossover derailed things. My next issue is the Zero Hour flashback to John's Marine Corps days. Looking forward to it.
Thanks for the recommendation, guys!
Yeah, bad crossovers were the only problem with this run. Jensen clearly had great ideas that he should have been more time to implement. At the end of his run, he wrote an article on ComicVine that mentioned how he visited boards to see what fans wanted. And I think he delivered the best he could for the environment he was in. Editorial really shot itself in the foot here by trying to have events all the time instead of letting the writers tell their own stories.
The article by Jensen is worth the read too: https://comicvine.gamespot.com/artic...n/1100-151382/.
This connection/idea first popped into my head when I read Black Lightning: Year One several years ago. It's cool to see that idea was actually a real plan at one point.
Dat art O_o
