Spider-Verse part II comes out in April 2022

Both highly rated oscar films. Although seems Spider-Verse was more loved by the fans because it attempted to do something different.

Lets hope Black Panther 2 pushes the genre forward.

This is actually a recent development. When GentleÂ’s backstory is first given he himself narrates that Wakanda knows about the X-gene and didnÂ’t treat him differently because of it. It was the fact that he was half-white that made him isolated. Still terrible though. For whatever reason there was an attempt to retcon that in X-Men Red. In the retelling of his origin, not only is GentleÂ’s mother being physically abused by her (presumably) Wakandan husband, when Gentle tries to use his powers to help her she calls him subhuman and beats him, clearly embarrassed about his mutation. ItÂ’s then explained the abuse she gave him through the years caused him severe nerve damage that had to be reversed by Jean Grey after Wakandan doctors failed for years. And heÂ’s the result of an affair, but that was always the case from his original backstory.

I donÂ’t know why they didnÂ’t just invent a regular Wakandan character without unnecessary baggage. Him being hated by his mom for any reason didnÂ’t make him more compelling. He literally exists to brood and make Wakanda look bad.

It's very telling that success of today's X-Verse is so dependent on throwing shade on everyone else to make them sympathetic.

Somewhere along the way, I forget exactly when (and, honestly, don't really care) the go-to high concept for big storylines has defaulted to "what if one group of heroes went to war with another?" Add that to a tendency to demolish exotic cultures for cheap Drama™, and you have a recipe for disaster in Wakanda.

(I honestly expect Hickman to insist Wakanda be destroyed for deigning to refuse the largess of Krakoan crack. :P )

    That would be rather unfortunate.

But not, I think, improbable. He's already made a point (in one of his umpteen infographics) to call out Wakanda as an enemy different from the others:

You just KNOW he's going to pull that trigger. Probably offscreen.

(Oh, and I can't help but note the other enemies are usually considered fascist dictatorships of one form or another.)

Well, if Hickman decides to go that route, it will only confirm Marvel Editorials ongoing fascination with undermining T'Challa and Wakanda's overall position of prominence within the MU/MCU.

I doubt that honestly. Wakanda might take a hit or lose a battle (like in Secret Empire), but I don't think it would be destroyed. It's one thing to do it in Time Runs Out, when there was no Black Panther title and Hickman himself was effectively the main BP/Wakanda writer. But now BP has his own solo book, so I don't think Hickman would do something that big to another book unless there's an out to magically reverse it.

That would be the same BP title that has T'Challa lost in space for months while at the same time leading the Avengers AND the Agents of Wakanda?

Yes, I can see the X-office kowtowing to that storyline…

Just because books are published at the same time doesn't mean they take place at the same time. Captain America was trapped in Dimension Z for years in his own title while appearing in Avengers. Books generally only have to line up with each other timewise when they're crossing over into events (which Coates typically doesn't do anyways). Based on Shuri's comments I think T'Challa returns around Secret Empire.

BUt the point being I don't see Wakanda being destroyed. Now that there's a BP title Wakanda is another franchises toy in the toy box. Unless this is all worked out and approved of course. If Coates and the editors are all in on it then that's different. Otherwise, whatever happens (if anything happens) would likely be something the BP book can completely ignore if necessary like say Secret Empire. They just lost a fight.

Oh, I fully expect Coates to ignore whatever Hickman does. But Hickman can ignore whatever Coates does, too. And editorial probably told him to, since with the exception of the Shuri mini (written by a Pal Of Coates™), NOBODY has acknowledged what went on in this run. As far as the MU at large goes, everything is perfectly fine in Wakanda and has been for a while.

So if Hickman wants to destroy Wakanda, I can't see Marvel editorial saying no. After all, just because two books come out at the same time….

I honestly can’t see Hickman destroying Wakanda. The worst I think will happen is some Cold War type tensions between the two nations but outright destroying it? No. Especially since Storm will no doubt take issue with that decision.

It recently occurred to me that some of M'Baku's children might have been Snapped. I wonder how that will affect his and T'Challa's relationship in the sequel if that were the case.

Well if it's any consolation that tendency to demolish exotic cultures probably won't protect Krakoa either.

Does it really matter if BP has a book or not though? The sales on his solo are trash and it’s obvious that if Hickman has a big Krakoan invasion of Wakanda that’s what most fans are gonna see. No one in the broader MU has really followed up on the changes Coates is making to the mythos so if a war does happen I fully expect whatever Hickman writes to be the status quo. Whether or not Coates chooses to incorporate would be his own prerogative.

Are we even gonna see why T’Challa said no to Krakoa this arc even though it looks like Storm is ready to break up with him over it? Apparently Krakoa already exists at the time she talks to Nakia, but yet she’s still helping out the kingdom and doesn’t seem to have discussed it with T’Challa. I think Hickman is the point man on Wakanda-Krakoa relations at this point, not Coates.

And I actually wouldn’t be surprised if he was on board with a major Wakandan defeat and was working with Hickman on something. He likes to write T’Challa from a position of weakness and emotional turmoil so his ex-wife leading the invasion of his kingdom would certainly have some appeal. And to seal the deal all Hickman has to do is let Storm get that fabled mini or date T’Challa after the big fight lol.

There are degrees to which you can ignore things. Wakanda having problems is ignorable. Wakanda being destroyed is not. THat's my point. Hickman can have Wakanda take a hit (losing a battle or causing some damage) ... but destroying it goes beyond the point where it can be ignored.
