Ow ow ow, romance took quite a beating this past year with Kitty leaving Peter at the alter and Rachel dumping Kurt, just like that and Tyke lost his girlfriend by death. But… there was an extinguished fire between two X-Men that suddenly was again fueled and there was that hot night Domino had with a famous Martial Art hero. Some youngsters fell in love and a wedding took place. So romance isn't dead yet and these were the ones who made our hearts go boom boom boom. Runner-up were the young lovers Tyke and Jeen.

We only saw a peak of their love in the very beginning of the year, when the Generation X series ended. We did not see them interact with each-other after that. But many liked what they saw.

    SHATTERSTAR & RICTOR

Well they were doing very well in the first part of 2018. Seeing Benjamin taking the term 'naked chef' literally. But sadly it seemed Ben broke up with Rictor during the Shatterstar mini. Let's hope they will hook up again. I found this fan-art picture that I wanted to use, just because it was great.

With a huge lead this couple became first:

This one did not come as a surprise. I knew for sure these two lovebirds would be the number one. Finally reunited after many years being separated and them fell in love again. Well, it never really died, did it? Quickly after that they decided to get married and making love in space on the honeymoon. Romance is up to a whole new level for these two in their own ongoing. We all seem happy this love is finally confirmed.
    Good choices folks.

It's not easy to balance romance, drama and action scenes in comics congratulations to writers who can meet the expectations of fans and readers through those moments.

Best Single Battle/Fight of the Year

Was it a one on one fight who won this year, or was it X-Man versus another X-Man? Did we love Kitty bitch-slapping Lydia Nance, or the way Emma beat Shaw to become the new Black King? Sorry to say, this did not make the top 3, even-tough they were awesome. The best rewarded fights this past year were:

Good news though, one of the most missed characters of the past year just has made his return in one of the very last issues of 2018. Cyclops! He was number one of the most missed character of 2017, will he have made it into the top 3 again? Last years number 2, Northstar made his return in Disassembled. And then we have Surge, who made the most missed character list in 2016 and 2017. She still isn't back, so did she again make the list and if so, will we finally get out prayers for her return answered in the upcoming year? As always the keep missing most of the New X-men, they do score very well in this category. So why do we not get more on her, Hellion, Mercury and Dust? Fun fact, we usually barely vote for villains to make their return, but this year some were seriously missing ... Sauron....?

    SURGE

Poor Nori, she is in this top 3 for 3 years in a row now. It is time for Marvel to bring her back. But... same as with Frenzy, she did appear in the final Disassembled fight, so we might see her making her comeback in NextGen, or another Age of X-Man mini. If not, we can expect Surge to be making her comeback in this category next year.

If this will be the case for all 3 off these ladies, I am really wondering who will be in the top 3 for 2019.
She keeps making the list. SHE KEEPS MAKING THE LIST. X-Editorial......

    Low Point of the Year

We all saw some groan-worthy moments in 2018, that would have made you embarrassed to be seen reading it by your friends and made you even consider getting a title of your pull-list. In fact, some actually did. In 2016 the ultimate low point was that Marvel made Cyclops evil (though IMO Cyclops was still right) and last year is was not a story development, but the behaviour of one of the artists when it was discovered that Syaf's artwork on Gold consisted Political and religious references hidden in his art, coursing quite a controversy.

Both were about the younger mutant students. Some might say Generation X was some kind of replacement of New/Young X-Men though. But nope, we want a team with at least Dust, Surge, Mercury and Hellion. We haven't seen them in action. And finally Jubilee gets her own squad of students and then it gets cancelled. Depressed. Little positive note, we might find all off these kids in de NextGen mini series.

Xavier coming back as a man called X

We saw this event back in other categories as well. Might have been the worst decision the X-Office made last year. Who ever came up with the idea of replacing a souls in somebody's else his body. Also, it might be a little to soon to bring the Professor back. On top of that, remember what Cyclops was most angry about? Yup wiping memories out,. Guess what Charles did as soon as Shadow King was defeated. indeed, wiping out the memories of him being back to all X-Men on the scene, but one.

Rachel possessed 3 times in one year

First Prestige was possessed by Mesmero, who is not even a telepath(!) Because of that we got the so called Dark Rachel Saga, which was voted as worst story of the year. Then we got Cassandra Nova in a great X-Men Red story. Sad thing, she also needed to possess Rachel and on top of that, the arch-nemesis of Rachel returned. The man who used her as Hound for years. He came here and now Rachel might be lost forever now. To be honest the role of hound does suit her well.

    Highlight of the Year

These is the cherry on the award cake. The moments we all loved. That made us proud X-Men fans and even wanted to share these moments with people who we know do not give a ….. About comics at all. I think the number 1 will not be a surprise to anyone. Though I do wonder if Exterminated #5 came out on the original date, if that ending (Cyclops' return) would have ended in this top 3. But lets say this there were plenty of long awaited returns. We saw the return of the Uncanny title, we saw Kwannon return in het previous body, Psylocke reshaping her own, we got the return of powers of Jubes, Banshee came back, love between some favorites came back. Also someone came back to the Hellfire Club and the O5 went back. However, those moments were all high lights, but which of these sparkled the most.

    Uncanny X-Men Returns

Many had wished for the color schemed titles to end and getting back Uncanny. We got what we wished for. Blue, Red and Gold no more...! This #1 issue did sell really well and got so many variant covers, we lost count of it. Jean, Grey, Storm, Bishop, Jubilee, Northstar, Beast, Nightcrawler, Psylocke, X-23 and Iceman. These are the uncanny X-Men for 2018. The upcoming issues shows us a team of Cyclops, Wolverine, Havok Banshee and some former New Mutants making the team. When the dust is settled, who will be the core team. No one knows yet...

Reunion, proposal and marriage of Rogue and Gambit

For sure one of the biggest highlights of 2018. Unexpected, but it was about time. They got hooked up again in the Rogue & Gambit mini, got married instead of Kitty/Peter, shocked us all and warmed our hearts unexpectedly and then got their own ongoing.

    Jean Grey Returns!

Also quite unexpected, the real deal Jean came back in a great story, well told. The Phoenix Force has left her and right after her return, she decided to make the world a better place. She collected some old and new friends and started the Red Team. Then in the end she did lead the Uncanny X-Men in their bog battle during Disassembled. Now she's at the Age of X-Man, while her former husband just return to the land of the living as well. Will the Jean/Scott reunion perhaps be the highlight of 2019? Guess we will see.

Well, that was the last award of these elections.

2018 has been quite a year.

We lost titles like Gold, Generation X, Red and Blue, we lost heroes like Cable, Bloodstorm and Mimic, but some others like Jean, Madrox and Cyclops returned to the land of the living.

A marriage got cancelled, while another took unexpectedly place. Some anti heroes seem to become villains again and the O5 were send back.

At the end of the year most of the X-men are sucked into Age of X-Man, who knows what 2019 will bring. But we can be sure we will love some and hate some for sure.

Rest me to say it was again a pleasure to do this and worth every minute. Thank you to those who participated.

Till next year and remember the good moments rather than the bad ones. Stay positive.

I know it is not always easy but hope you continue with the tradition.

With the return of several characters that were dead 2019 can be epic if marvel use the right cards.

I hope one day we will have our prayers answered and marvel will do us the favor of giving a comic worthy of the new generation of mutants.

Poor Rachel maybe she was the most unlucky character of 2018 among the mutant comics.
